We stayed here for two nights on a road trip. Nice quiet location, country walks accessible from the hotel and just a short drive to the city centre. Room was clean and comfortable but the restaurant across the road is the outstanding feature. Looks unspectacular on the outside but lovely old world charm indoors. Delicious food and nice service. Overall, the price was good for the area. Would stay again.

To avoid parking issues in Freiburg, we opted to stay in a little village outside the city. It worked out well. The B&B is a newer building, across the street from a long-established and well-patronized restaurant. Parking available right in front of the B&B, although at dinnertime, there is some competition for parking with the restaurant patrons. The room had a nice balcony although not much of a view. But it was comfortable, with a good bathroom/shower, and quiet. We enjoyed a good meal in the restaurant upon arrival, although we needed to change servers as ours spoke no English. A good location out-of-town, for making driving tours of the magnificent surrounding mountain areas.

We found zum Kreuz very easily, it was signposted on lamp posts. We were welcomed into the hotel and had a very comfortable and spotlessly clean bedroom with shower room. We opted to eat in the restuarant which was very busy but our waitress proved to be a treasure by helping us with menu choices. It was such a delicious meal we ate there on the following evening. Parking was handy, just outside the hotel. There is a sauna and a 'hobby' room in the basement with gym equipment and table tennis. Water was provided in the room and there was fruit in the lobby. Breakfast was very filling with a good range of items you would expect in a continental style meal.
Excellent location for touring the Forest. Went to Lake Titisee and hired a rowing boat for an hour but half an hour would have been enough as the lake is quite small. Visited Freiburg which is a very pretty city and would love to come back for an extended visit Would happily return to Hotel zum Kreuz.

We drove right past as the signage might be better, but came back to find an ample car park and a flower-bedecked hotel frontage that immediately charmed us. We spent a couple of nights here en route south, and wished we had longer. The glorious weather helped, of course, but the commodious accommodation was comfortable, including the cool shady verandah that proved very welcome on a warm summer evening. We ate at the hotel and were not disappointed; excellent breakfast, superb salads, delicious meat dishes and very pleasant local wines to try. Our only problem was in translation, and fortunately some of the staff speak good English. Located in a small village, the hotel is ideal for accessing Freiburg and for exploring the southern Black Forest by car. Well worth a longer stay, and highly recommended.
