To be fair, we paid considerably less for staying at Le Rondpoint than we normally spend on a chalet, so I wasn't expecting it to be top notch. But I was still underwhelmed, particularly with the tired, shabby and very noisy room.
On a positive note, the Chalet Hotel is ideally placed, just a couple of minutes walk to the mediaeval centre of beautiful Megeve. The ski hire shop is just up the road, and there was plentiful hot water. The food was also good, and although it was a set meal, they catered well for people's dietary preferences. Care was taken with the presentation and some meals were very tasty. The other guests provided pleasant company around the large table.
Unfortunately, the room (number 11) on the top floor was very disappointing. Rickety old furniture, curtain hanging off the rail and too small to adequately block out the light, mould over the bathroom ceiling, cracked and stained sink.... and it just didn't feel terribly clean. Room service during the week was minimal. The toilet was in a separate room but was so small your head practically touched the door when using it, and then you had to cross to the bathroom to wash your hands and hope your 'other' wasn't in it. The beds were comfortable however. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday night we were woken by shouting and screaming outside between 2-4am and as the windows had no shutters, it made for very poor sleep.
The chalet hosts were variable in their degree of customer service. As there was insufficient snow in Megeve, we were taken to Les Contamines, which was a delightfully sunny small resort. The guys driving the transfers - Patrick, Tom and Dan, were all very friendly, chatty and efficient. But some of the other staff barely engaged with the guests and clearly looked like they wanted to be at home after a long winter season.
