Hotel Le Palace des Neiges

Very nice location directly on the slopes. Not all the 5 stars hotels in Courchevel can say that.
The best part is the staff on top with the head concierge, Ivan. Very friendly, and professional. Nothing is impossible for them. Also the restaurant staff is very kind and gentle.
Hint: next year the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and the sauna will be redone completely. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Will be back.

Room Tip: rooms facing right have sun all day long and you can see the top of the mountain

The Palace
I spent a number of weeks at the Hotel Le Palace de Neiges late in the 2013/14 ski season. The staff for the most part are friendly and helpful but the hotel lacks basic amenities that should be standard at the price charged.
The first issue is the horrible Wi-Fi in the hotel which constantly knocks you off line. One minute you're reading or working through the internet, the next you're staring at "Connection in progress, Please wait, you will be redirected once connected", for hours on end. Seriously, if you move from your seat to another one seat 6 feet away, you're toast.
The rooms in the hotel are small and there is definitely a heat issue in that as the sun gets higher in the sky the rooms facing it get stifling hot, seriously, it's impossible to sleep. I get it that it's a ski resort but if you plan on sleeping in, be sure to ask for a northern exposure.
The fitness center is a joke and very sparse with 1 faulty running treadmill and a couple of other old machines that are a waste of time. The Spa is isolated and unwelcoming and although I didn't try any treatments, the pool, sauna and steam (if they even have one) are located behind closed doors.
The food in the restaurant is pretty good with an attentive and friendly wait staff so that is definitely one of the Palace's strengths.
If you are looking for a conveniently located hotel right next to a gondola for skiing with a friendly and mostly helpful staff with good food, Hotel Le Palace des Neiges is a good choice. If you appreciate the many basic amenities that other hotels (in this astronomical price range) offer, than you can do much better elsewhere.

We have reviewed L'Hotel Le Palace des Neiges before (in 2012), but we stayed there again recently and there have been a few changes which are worth mentioning.

The most important point is that the restaurant is under new management and it was just amazing in January 2014! It was good before, but now it is great. The new people are Italian. The food is still mainly French, but there are a few Italian options thrown in now, which offered a little more variety. But what blew us away was the improvement in the evening buffet during the 'high season'. Not your normal hotel buffet, but luxury options every night. Of course, a la carte is available too, or you can mix and match. The restaurant staff all spoke good English and were charming, without exception. The breakfast buffet is not as good as the evening buffet, but a la carte items are available and again it is possible to mix and match. The evening buffet was not available during low season, but a la carte was still available.

We also loved the entertainment available in the bar area during high season, as well as the bar service. There was a musical group this time, who I had not seen before, with a mother and daughter jazz/blues duet doing the singing, plus an outstanding double-bass player and guitarist.

The only change for the worse was that the wifi was terrible this time. It has been a problem with the internet service provider, and the hotel was working on fixing it while we were there, so hopefully it will all be resolved in time for anyone booking for next season. The only other improvement I would like to suggest is that the pool would be nicer if it was a degree or two warmer, but that might be just a personal opinion, because I'm coming from a warmer climate.

Some things stay the same. In particular, contrary to the misunderstanding evidenced by one of the reviewers below, it would be impossible to come across a finer concierge than head concierge Ivan. So experienced, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Secondly, assistant manager Sidonie Charvet is always so helpful and reliable with reservations. Senior staff such as these people really make a difference to the culture of a place and the way they can make it seem like home.

Room Tip: You can't really go wrong, but the suites are worth the extra money.

I was here as a part of a business trip and found the hotel and its location very convenient. It was right next to the gondola station and still one step away from the main town. The rooms are beautiful and tastefully decorated. Clean and warm. The spread for breakfast is also very good. It has a ski renting facility within the hotel and you can pick up all the gear required form there.
