Wow, what an experience. The day we arrived the newspaper told us that Kylie Minogue, Sophie Marceau etc. stayed here. There's some list of the top 8 hotels in the world and this is one of them. So you know you are in for something special.
It's a bunch of charming chalets close together with short charming pathways separating them. Philippe is an artist, a film maker, a photographer and has put in so many small touches in his Chalets that it will take you a couple of days just to notice them. All these and so much wood give the chalets a tremendously warm and comfortable feeling. It's the complete opposite of a cold modern hotel room. We chose the chalet called Les Trolles mainly for the deck where they served us breakfast as we gazed at the Mont Blanc every morning. The chalet had it's on steam room and 2 jacuzzis which we used briefly.
We took the half-board option (breakfast and dinner) for Euro 80 per person. On the first evening the main chef was absent but the pastry chef did a great job along with the server. We chose to eat in their living room (for the appetizers) and move to the dining table for the entrees. The second night both the chefs were absent so the food was ordinary. So make sure the chefs are there when you choose to eat there.
The staff was exceptional in their warmth and personal attention and helped make this stay extraordinary. They will happily take you around to the sights in Chamonix in their car (for a charge) and pick you up. Very convenient.
On the last day my passport was stolen in the Chamonix cable car centre called Aguille Du Midi and one of the staff, Nikolai was so helpful, I can't say enough. He helped me search for it even in the trash cans, helped me file the police complaint and explained in French at the train and bus station that my things had been stolen so I didn't have to buy the tickets again. There was a train strike and Nikolai stayed back and made sure we boarded the bus. In my entire travels Nikolai is the most friendly, warm and helpful person I have ever come across.
Overall, an experience you will never forget thanks to the Chalets and the staff.
