Hotel Vertigo - Vieux Port
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 8 March 2017

Easy to get to and right in the heart of Vieux Porte, the staff make this place welcoming and relaxed and this seems to keep the visitors calm and friendly.
The staff are well trained and confident and the running of the hostel was as smooth as I've seen anywhere.
Everything was clean and in order but maybe parts of the building itself are not the most aesthetic or well laid out.
Where the building has been equiped as a hostel it can not be faulted.
The style and decoration was also very tastefully done.
I hope to return soon.

Room Tip: You don't stay in a hostel because you like the room but as far as i could tell every room looke...

Excellent location, clean room and spacious.
All the front desk people were friendly but august in particular is most helpful.
Met lovely lady in this hostel and have been dating since then. All in all perfect and memorable stay.
Thanks guys.

Well connected, all the major attractions are easy to reach from the hostel. Equiped shared facilities, some of the rooms can be a bit echoey. Recommended for a stay when in Marseille. Bring your own lock for the safes.

THE GOOD: Location, probably, it's location is what this hostel stands out. Near the port and the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde. There's also a Lidl store in the next street (left side)

THE BAD: Small kitchen, and you also to take the stairs to your room. Pretty old building, but the room is nice (5-bedroom). The receptionists were helpful and nice, but based on my experienced, I can really tell that some were not pure in being nice to their visitors, like, they are just doing it because it's part of their duty. It's kinda phony and not genuine for me. I'm sorry, but I don't want to sugarcoat my experienced with the place I stayed in. Like I just want to be honest. So that it can also help both sides in the future of what to improve.

(Attached were some of my photos in the hostel and in Marseille)

It is safe, the staff is friendly and the place in clean. You have locker, 2 plugs in near your bed. The public space of the hostel is pretty nice, in both blocks.
The location is superb and probably the biggest selling point of this hostel, you can walk to the basilica on hill very easily. 3-5 mins to Vieux Port. Proximate to supermarkets and cafes.

Though breakfast is included don't expect too much, they provide drinks, cereal and bread only, no ham or egg. And the big problem is there is no heating in the room, really freezing at night during my stay in January.

Room Tip: Don't expect great view. You can only expect street view but it is not noisy at all.

Sorry you were cold, you should have come to tell us though. Of COURSE we have heaters in the room and we can choose a temperature for every single room. If you don't let us know, we cannot do anything about it. We also have 24h reception, so even in the middle of the night, we could have done someething about it.
