We have a friend who is a Paris trained chef and who has travelled the World eating in the finest restaurants and attending International Culinary Conferences. We once asked her which country has the best cuisine. Without hesitation she said, VIETNAM.

So after aimlessly wandering the streets of Orange for 30 minutes, past endless pizza and pasta restaurant, when we saw RESTAURANT LE SAIGON - well need we say more!

The restaurant overlooks the 2000 year old Theatre Antique, so a nice location. We went for probably the cheapest item on the menu; the 3 course special at €14. We had a very tasty chicken based pho (soup) with hugh pieces of chicken floating in it; two different chicken based main courses and a fresh lychee desert. We also bought the cheapest wine on the menu; again €14 per bottle, with a choice of rose or red. We went for the red which was smooth, tannin-free and delightful. So excellent tasty food, excellent wine at a very low cost.

The meal was finished off with a hot towel to cleanse our hands and a complimentary glass of rice wine.

After 4 weeks in France, this was by far the best value meal we have had. The endless hand shaking and signs of recognition were obvious indicators that it was a restaurant favoured by the locals. Need we say more, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Had a very good dinner for two persons for about 35 euros. Service was good and friendly. Sitting outside on the terrace, the location was quite nice.

Greeted with a grunting “follow” we were conducted to the rear end and seated beneath a hot air blowing air conditioner. The menu is the typical mile long offering of a chinese take away. We exited immediately.

Opera season ...and Orange is bursting at the seams, and offers lots of expensive Opera menus only. We chose to dine at this perfectly situated and characterful restaurant, not only because we thought the food looked good but because the set menu at 29.95euros was good value. We were not at all disappointed.
The service was smiling and delightful, and whilst the restaurant was very busy, we did not at all feel rushed or hassled. Our crab and seaweed nems were aromatic and delicious, and our main courses of Duck and Beef equally so. The Wine list was compact but with good local reference, and we enjoyed a local Rose and a spicy Crozes Hermitage. Puddings were refreshing frozen lemons filled with lemon sorbet, and imaginatively presented fresh pineapple.
Le Saigon was a great choice for our pre opera meal. Great location, great food and genuine, charming service

On a hot evening this was an introduction for us to Vietnamese food & we were not disappointed. Great service with lots of smiles & we were made to feel relaxed & welcomed. Only thing to point out is the huge portions, we asked if one rice between 2 would be enough but were told we would need two, mistake so much we couldnt eat it all, but thats not a slight, we are just not used to it.
