“lovely home with a great view but...”
Reviewed 19 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This house is a beautifully kept vacation rental with the most amazing view of the region. The pool is wonderful as well as the outside decorations and grounds. It sleeps 6, but 4 is better if you want to have a sitting area with T.V. If you have 6 people, you have to use the pull out sofa in the family room. The kitchen is large and well stocked with cooking utensils. The washing machine is an additional blessing! One issue we had is that the house does not have outlets in the bathroom to use for hairdryers. It does have a razor outlet. It does not have air conditioning and fans would be a really good idea for quests in the summer. It does get cool in the evenings and nights, but little air circulates in the bedrooms. The biggest problem with the house is the parking. It is impossible to drive a car down the very steep driveway and get back out. It is hard to walk up and down the driveway and difficult at night. For people who are older or have health issues, the driveway would be a problem, not to mention carrying bags. The owner graciously offered her garage to us and her son took our luggage in his four wheel jeep to the house. The garage is located up the hill from the house on a very busy road. It is necessary to back into the driveway from the middle of the busy road hoping that no one slams into your car. If you stay in the house, you need a car to get around.
The owner of the house, Grace was very welcoming to our group. She and her son are very nice people. We did enjoy our stay. The home is close enough to drive to Nice, Monaco, Cannes , and many other towns.

“Beautiful views, peace and quite, just the perfect location for a break”

We was very apprehensive about the previous comments about the slope, down to the property, fit and able ?, then its no problem. Grace kindly let us use her garage at the top of the drive, and we walked down to the property. On arrival to the apartment, a real wow as you take in the vista from the very private terrace and pool (exclusive use of) Both Grace and her son were on hand if we needed anything. We loved our stay there with plenty to do around Grasse, when we could drag ourselves away from the Villa. An apartment that was more than generous in space and very well equipped. An excellent place to vacate to.

“Absolutely gorgeous!”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Despite the drama, we had a wonderful time in this exquisite location. The views are quite incredible, the villa is just lovely and the weather was fabulous! Though we have to agree about the access, it's a bit like childbirth - soon forgotten and more than worth it!!

Grace truly lives up to her name; she was quite fabulous, as was her lovely son Gregory. In a sudden medical emergency with our son, they couldn't have been more helpful and supportive. Greg stayed at the hospital most of the night with my husband, and Grace was so comforting to me. They both missed a night's sleep and were incredibly kind to us. Poor Ed missed most of his holiday as he spent the rest of the week recovering from surgery in bed - couldn't even go in the pool! But what a lovely location to be stranded in!

We'll never forget this holiday!

“Villa with panoramic view and spacious grounds in south east Mediterranean France”
Reviewed 13 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at Villa St John for two weeks 26 July – 8 August 2014 and had a fantastic time.

As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a very steep and long driveway leading down to the villa from the main road. We didn’t feel our Audi A4 was best suited to hill driving, so we left our car parked in Grace’s garage, which she kindly offered to us, and which is situated across the road from the driveway. Having read a previous review concerning how busy and dangerous this road is, we were slightly apprehensive before our visit, however, we really didn’t find this too much of a problem. Yes, you do need to cross the road from the garage, but we got into the habit of depositing our passengers by the top of the driveway prior to backing into the garage, and while it is a main road, it is heading out of Grasse and therefore not that busy. We incorporated the steep driveway into our daily workout – with all the lovely restaurants in the vicinity, it was a good way to work off a few calories!

The villa itself was perhaps a bit on the cosy side, but don’t let that put you off – the grounds are spacious and the weather so gorgeous that you will want to be outside all the time anyway! We only really went in to sleep!

The villa’s crowning glory is its view. Perched on the hillside, it has a fabulous and unobstructed view all the way down to the bay of Cannes. Sitting outside, eating, drinking and playing games on a terrace with that view was heavenly. Likewise, swimming in the pool, which is a decent size, you have the dramatic backdrop of the mountainside and craggy cliffs to gaze at. We found Grace to be very hospitable and there if needed, but otherwise unobtrusive and virtually invisible.

Given the views, the glorious weather with which this part of France is gifted, the pool, the table-tennis and the badminton court, you need to push yourselves to leave the villa and explore the surrounding area. However, once you have powered yourselves up the driveway, there are plenty of places to explore. Whether you venture down to the seaside or up to the mountains, you will find good restaurants at which to eat, mountains to climb, grottes to descend into, artisan shops to browse and sea sports galore. Although, it should be noted that you will need a car to drive to these. However, we did walk into Grasse a few times (the historic centre has some nice restaurants), and it took us approximately 20-30 minutes to get there.

We have explored many parts of France, but this has so far been our favourite – close to the action for when we wanted to get out and mingle, but private and spacious for when we just wanted to chill out and relax in the grounds and let our bones soak up a bit of Mediterranean sun.

We had a fabulous time – hope you do too.

We had a fantastic holiday at villa St. John. The views from the villa were spectacular, and the pool was very welcome in the heat. The steep drive was a bit tricky, but in this hilly location, other properties had similar access problems. The villa was clean and comfortable but perhaps needed a little updating. The owner was both discreet and very helpful. All in all a great place and we would willingly return!
