We have driven up here and walked up the steep and extremely stony path a couple of times and only once has the wonderful chapel been open!it was only then that we learnt of the men who carry the statue of Mary (?) down to the town centre BAREFOOT!! And then carry it back after a few days....the views are spectacular from up here and well worth the visit even if the chapel is closed.

Accessible by car or walking, The dirt track is not called Calvary for nothing so if walking you need to be fit, but the views from the top are stunning and well worth the effort. There is so much history in the tiny church. There is a cafe and pleasant garden nearby now. I am not sure of the hours of opening so best to check first.

the plaques on the wall mostly have dates on them along with tributes to sailors lost at sea over the centuries. Not sure I found the oldest ones, but some date back a very long way. Mind you, there has been a chapel here since the Roman times.
The cafe next door in the courtyard is good for a light lunch. Pick a clear sunny day and you can see for miles from the great vantage point next to the chapel. Unfortunately, the public binoculars were not working when we visited, but it still provided some stunning photos.

On a good visibility day, the views from here are stunning. Next to the church is a little restaurant, there is a small shop and the church interior is fascinating, even featuring floating ships (hanging from the ceiling). The lighthouse is not accessible to the public, the main path up to the lighthouse/church is very steep and can be slippery after rain, but it matters not...this is a fantastic walk up with a real treat at the top. Oh, and the Bois de la Garoupe (woods surrounding the lighthouse area) is a great place for a walk too.
