We had booked 3 twin rooms and a single. On arrival the desk said there was no reservation. When we produced the paperwork they had 4 rooms, but 3 with double beds which we refused. "He" said there was nothing he could do although we pointed out that the beds could be separated. After several phone calls to the travel agent, the beds were separated and we were each given a bottle of wine (from the travel agent, although the hotel claimed from them!). Such a shame about the attitude of the management in this hotel. It is a lovely period hotel in the heart of this lovely town. The rooms are full of character and when we had lunch in the restaurant (a thunderstorm kept us at base) the food was excellent and the staff charming

Room Tip: Quieter rooms at back

The Bastide du Cours has it all; one of favorites of favorites! We've never stayed there because we lived in Aix for 5 years; but we can certainly vouch for the restaurant. Tired after a long day, do yourself a favor, relax with a thirst-quenching drink and an elegant meal at Bastide du Cours, our choice in Aix.

Room Tip: You will be staying in the center of Aix, "the little Paris." You cannot go wrong!

One of the beauties of being in France is sitting at a café and people watching. La Bastide is on Cours Mirabeau and is thus well-situated for this pleasure. Try the champagne + tapas plate for an apéro. Or a glass of the Cassis wine. If it's summer, drink rosé, because this is Provence.

I go to Bastide du Cours for two reasons: to sit on the terrace in the warmth of the sun, and for the great food.

On my last visit, I had magret de canard en eventail (duck breast with fig sauce and mignonette potatoes). My guest had tuna slightly cooked with sesame and vegetables in ratatouille, a specialty of the house.

Their Caesar salad, which they call Le Veritable (literally, "the real") is a little different from what we have back home. They use both romaine and iceberg lettuce with roasted herb chicken, croutons, sliced hard boiled eggs, and "Grana Padano" cheese that looks and tastes like Parmesan but is creamy, plus their homemade Caesar dressing. Ask for the sauce on the side and add what you want since it tends to be too salty.

A Cote de Provence from the island of Porquerolles was excellent.

Just ate here May 1, 2016 and was totally disappointed. I have been eating for years, but they seem to have changed owners chef. Menu lacks originality from before, and the service reflects their focus on the numbers. One of the largest restaurants in AIX and it shows.. while the "cadre" is still nice, the focus is obviously on bus tour groups and in & out as fast as you can. Sad to lose a good address... back to 2G? Still a good find even if... can't comment on the hotel... just the restaurant. Don't bother..
