A truly wonderful day paddling down the Charente river from Jarnac back to Cognac. We were dropped off about 11.30 by a really friendly guide who gave us hints and tips to make the best of the day. We saw amazing wildlife, a Goliath orange Heron, a swan that flew past us gracefully and hundreds of dragon fly, damsel flies and the odd hummingbird. The water is clear and safe. Fun at the end going down the canoe slide !. Park near the canoe club for free all day. Also great if you are planning on going into town. This is a well run business with great equipment which compliments the day.

Perfect on a boiling hot day in Autumn. We weren't sure it was going to be open but luckily it was. The river flowing westwards isn't too interesting apart from gliding past the odd Cognac manufacturer, but the river upstream, eastwards is really pretty though unless you use the lock you can't get to it too far in the electric boats. If you are kayaking you can reach the upper level though watch out, you have to haul the boats out of the water and carry them some distance to reach a safe spot further up river, this is quite a trek and not easy with little children.
