My husband and I stayed in for a week in June. The lodging is in the quiet and lovely old section of Honfleur; it's beautifully restored--with original glass work done by the owner, a prominent historical glass restorer and glass artist, handmade Moroccan rugs, comfy furniture, and lots of reading/conversation nooks. No convenience is lacking. We felt both at home, and refreshingly "away." M. Mayel is so generous with his knowledge and advice on restaurants, out of the way villages, etc. Getting to know him added immensely to the pleasure of our stay.
A beautiful and luxurious apartment with everything required to make your stay comfortable. Well placed for exploring Honfleur as well as being a good base to explore the surrounding area. The quirkiness and artistic flourishes of the apartment makes the stay unique. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here with our two children aged 7and 10.
Things we've enjoyed doing:
Treetop adventures near Caen (Beauregard nord)
Boat trip from the marina
Naturospace
Walks around the incredibly beautiful town
Drives around the area and exploring local towns.
Buying fresh seafood and cooking it ourselves ( E leclerc is the best supermarket for reasonable prices as is The smaller intermaché at Equamaville but this has less choice).
Would highly recommend this apartment and area for families of non-buggying age (lots of cobbled streets).
The apartment is very recently renovated 2 bedroom unit steps from the center of Honfleur. Mayal was an excellent host and met us right at the unit to help with unloading and parking our car. The place is fully equipped and we found everything to be in good working order. The listing and pictures were accurate. The only issue we had was with the bedding (sheets, pillows) which we suggest needs to be upgraded to be at least the level of a Mercure.
Overall a nice place to stay.
Very well appointed apartment ..... clean, comfortable with small balcony off the dining area for coffee in the morning mist or reading in the bright sunshine. Very well situated......near to church, restaurants, harbor, merry-go-round, library, museums, galleries and shops. Harbor has many, many outdoor cafes with great food on nearest side. Honfleur is a special town for walking .... one can walk to all stores for the everyday needs of a home. Only use of car would be for sightseeing in other neighboring towns.
Your host was a designer of stained glass windows. The Queen Mary of England commissioned him to fabricate a window for the Bayeux Cathedral honoring fallen soldiers. Martial brings the same creative, methodical abilities to assure you have an enjoyable time while in Honfleur.
Also, this apartment is one to be enjoyed for more than a weekend. You will experience a new painting, artifact, etc.,. on the walls or a new place to visit every day.
