We had eaten well here a few years ago and had promised ourselves a night in the round room. There was a rounded bed and a bath(!) in the bedroom, with a separate loo and the bed was really comfortable. Noise came from the restaurant below but stopped quite early so it wasn't a problem. We had dinner which was so good that we came back with family a few weeks later. Locally sourced food is important here and all the meals that we had here were generously served and really tasty.

Room tip: The round rooms in the original oast house are the more interesting ones.

Hotel: It is a lovely quirky hotel but looks like it last had any money spent on it in the 1970's. It is quite old fashioned, swirly carpets and dated decor. Could be really lovely with a bit of cash and thought - needs an Alex Polizzi make over. Also needs a good clean, dusty chairs and woodwork.
The evening meals were lovely, even if they took a while to arrive. Evening staff were friendly
The lady taking the breakfast order was friendly but looked like she had just come in from doing the gardening, old and un-ironed jeans and flipflops. Sorry but I expected to be served by a waitress if not in black uniform at least smart.
The bathroom in our room was in dire need of updating. A sink set in formica, patched up hole in the bath, stained tiles and a shower that was a mixer tap on the bath. Some one had had a go at painting the woodwork in the bedroom but had also painted the hinges and handles - real shame. Again the overall impression was that the room needed a real good clean and please replace the swirly old fashioned carpet.
The hotel could be a real goldmine with a little bit of time and money spent on it.
We don't normally spend £100 on a B&B and I feel it was overpriced. The night before we had paid a lot less for a room in a hotel chain and it was much nicer all round.

Had a meal in the restaurant , really looking forward to a special meal. I could have cooked it at home, very plain and nothing special. Cobwebs on the hops and felt like it needed a deep clean. For summer, it was so quiet, just us a one other couple. Very disappointing .

Small intimate hotel on main road just over a mile from town centre. Quiet and very friendly. Restaurant serving locally sourced ingredients, very nice and reasonably priced. Great breakfasts too. Lovely bedroom, nothing fancy but clean and comfortable.

Room tip: The actual Oast house bedrooms are round, you could stipulate that you would like one of these.

We spent an enjoyable 2 days in Rye over the bank holiday weekend. The staff at Playden Oasts were lovely - really friendly. Breakfasts were good - continental and cooked. The hotel has lots of character and charm, particularly in the bar / restaurant area. However, the room we had was tatty, dated and really in need of some TLC. Plastic sink in the room, hideous patterned carpet which was coming away in places, lots of cobwebs around the lamps and windows, mould in the shower. The walls were so thin we could hear our neighbours on the toilet - not nice!! In short, we had a very pleasant stay and we knew it was not 5 star when we booked but at the moment I don't think it is reaching its potential on the room furnishings front.
