This place has probably seen better days. Booked two rooms (Junior Suite and double room with two beds) Junior suite was a little badly maintained (eg some lights not working) and the toilet was a fair distance from the bathroom - which I guess is a design thing - but found it a bit inconvenient. The double room was fine apart from they did not honour the request for two single beds which meant the occupants had to share a double. Also felt some of the hotel staff were a little unwelcoming...

Very bad service

We booked for 4 nights.
We had some complaints about bad service concerning some hotel shortcomings such as no wi fi reception in the room such as bad odour of the sheets about breakfast lousy service.
The hotel owner Mr Vautier and his wife fired us and asked us to leave the hotel after two days claiming that we are not allowed to complain about service. They insulted my sister. We called for police but seems that the police could not do anything as the owner seems to be master of this city in all hotel business.
To avoid this hotel. As they do not respect hospitality charter where the customer is always right.

The Ivan Vautier is a wonderful hotel with exceptional staff. They were very helpful (we had some travel issues and they helped us rebook!) The room and bathroom was large and lovely. Very comfortable. It is a small hotel and very quiet.
The only drawback is if you do not have a rental car, it is a pretty long walk to the main part of Caen - and at night it is tough to get a cab. Other than that, no issues at all - it was a marvelous stay with wonderful people!

Thank you very much for this nice reward.

We always try to do our best to find the best solution for our customers.

It is true that getting a cab is quite a struggle in caen but busses tend to be a better service.
In anyways thank you for taking your time share your experience .

We hope to see you again in our hotel and wish you a very pleasent day.

Maybe we were spoiled with the hotel we stayed for two nights prior in Bayeux. The Ivan Vautier leaves a lot to be desired based on its connection to a Michelin Star Restaurant. It left so much to be desired that it left me skeptical to the quality of the restaurant.

The hotel staff is So-So. They are welcoming but not such much that you feel welcome...just enough that you know they are doing their job and you feel like you are annoying them by needing to check in/out, asking for tea and bottled water, asking for extra pillows, or breakfast.

Thr is no complimentary water in the room; which is kind of a must for me in Five Star establishment, there were no extra sleeping pillows in the room. One pillow on each side of the bed with a small throw pillow made of wool on each side. Which did not fair well because my wife is allergic to wool. The cover blanket was also made of wool.

The breakfast is decent. But for 17€ I expect more especially for a dining room that is the Michelen Star dining experience in the evening. Breakfast is cheese, meat, yogurt, fruit, pastries. Eggs can be self boiled in a boiler. Our milk seemed sour and the coffee was bad or old or something. My wife and I were highly disappointed in our stay here.

The price is reasonable. I would warn customers don’t be sucked in by the Michelen restaurant allure. Nothing else about the hotel seems to match or compliment that level of attention to detail, consistency, and excellence.

This review is for the room only. We did not eat at the Michelin Star Restaurant. We stayed one night. Our party had been looking forward to staying at Ivan Vautier Hotel and eating at the Restaurant. The free parking on arrival was great. Staff at the front desk offered us a warm welcome. However it was apparent from the moment we arrived the hotel was preparing for a fair sized private event. There was a great deal of movement of furniture happening around us. After watching the activity for a while, and asking a member of staff what was happening, we made the difficult choice not to eat at the restaurant as we were uncertain how the private event, also eating, would impact on the dining experience. We were, and still are, incredibly disappointed we were not given the option prior to our stay of making an informed decision as to whether we wanted to complete our booking knowing the private event would definitely impact on our stay. We were not given this opportunity. In the hotel itself the rooms had some nice touches. Free robes and slippers in the bathroom etc. However for an establishment that lists itself as a 5 star hotel I expect more than average. There was no complimentary water in the mini bar for instance. I find this odd. Coffee facilities in the room were very disappointing, with sachets of a rather ordinary instant coffee the only choice. Also, had we wanted tea, which we didn't, there was a strange selection of just 3 rather ordinary branded tea bags, no two of which were the same. I also expect better than long life milk in a 5 star hotel. Especially when they have a mini bar and a Michelin star restaurant. Also, the shower door did not close properly in the bathroom, causing the floor to get wet and slippery. Finally some of the décor, especially paint work and the hallway did seem quite tired. It was not an unpleasant stay but in all honesty we were disappointed.
