Driving up from Les andelys, it's quite a stunning vista from the car park when you see this place. My two kids are pretty neanderthal when it comes to history and lovely vistas, but this really took the biscuit. Both (11 yo girl and 14 yo boy) are constantly on their ipads, no doubt conversing with 40 year olds pretending to be teenages, but the view from the top of the hill caught their otherwise normally jaded attention.

You see the dog-leg of the Seine with the ruins of the castle in the foreground and some jagged medieval rooftops in the background - none of which are familiar from any Hollywood films I've seen, so it's definitely worth a visit.

Only problem is when you get to the keep, the kiosk doesn't have an electronic cash machine. Take about 20 euros if you're a family of four, otherwise you don't get to see the keep. We didn't mind so much as the keep is probably the dullest bit of the whole shebang.

We toured this ancient ruin with a guide from our Seine River Cruise ship..... fantastic guide and a wonderful outing..... it made it MORE special when we saw the tomb of Richard the Lion Hearted only a few days later in another location....

You can easily see these ruins from the river below. With a lot of effort walking up to the top of the hill, you will be rewarded with a strong sense of history. While the castle is crumbling it still give you a sense what is was when it was in use. It also offers you a wonderful view of the river and the whole valley. Well worth the effort to climb up and see it.

This is an excellent result of the great work of the family. All done with great love.
In a large park, you can enjoy peace and quiet, in a small garden you can see beautiful apples and other fruits.
But the biggest success is the wonderful result of the restoration of a huge house, every detail has been restored with love, for itself.
Thank you so much for i can see your beautiful castle-house.

A wonderful place to see in the beautiful Normandy countryside. We started at the parking area and walked the path down to Des Andeles, such a charming town! Amazing to think this imposing structure was built for Richard the Lionhearted in just one year!
