After realising that the hotel was not in Rocamadour itself but in L'Hospitalet which confused our satnav we arrived after a long drive from Chez Bernardeau in La Vienne ready for a brief rest in our clean and comfortable rooms before walking into Rocamadour itself.

In the late afternoon we returned to the hotel and then ventured out to eat in a local restaurant which had a panoramic view over Rocamadour. We had visited Rocamadour twice in the past and had marvelled at its staggering cascade of buildings down a sheer cliff face but we had never stopped there for the evening. Wow! It really was an amazing sight to stand in a viewing area and look across at the town lit up at night. Truly it is a breathtaking sight.

Why "very good"? 1) young woman at reception was fabulous! She didn't speak a lot of English but more than our French. We still managed to communicate & she went out of her way to help us; 2) location - definitely glad we stayed at a hotel above the "canyon" where the old town & crowds are located; 3) great breakfast for 8,6.

Not a charming hotel like at earlier stops. Tiny bathroom. But it had a/c & a sliding glass door to a sorta-private terrace, which enlarged the feel of the room. Not fancy but fine for 2 nights and the price. Free wifi in room but very slow.

Room Tip: Room w/ a terrace to gain benefit of sliding glass doors

The Amadour Hotel is situated at the high point of Rocamadour and is great value for money. The rooms are clean, comfortable and with all the usual amenities such as en suite facilities and air conditioning, which in the heat of summer is a must for us! The girl on reception was most helpful, friendly and welcoming. She really went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and to make sure that we knew about what was available in the area. Breakfast was 9 Euros and for what was on offer this was a good deal. There were different breads/pastries, meat, eggs, yogurts, cereals, a great selection of fresh fruit and artisan honey and preserves, as well as coffee and a range of teas. Would definitely stay again.

We were on a cycling holiday, arrived early but were greeted by a young lady who took our bags and made us really welcome. The room was spotless, the beds comfortable, the shower amazing! Breakfast was all you would hope for and the proprietess couldn't be more helpful. The setting is spectular, Rocamadour just 15 minutes walk. Plenty of good eating places nearby.

Room Tip: My room looked over a well managed camp site but walk 20 paces for the most spectacular views you might hope for.

Had room 10, with terrace, on first floor. Room clean and functional, and quiet, but we couldn't seem to get the colder settings on the shower! Friendly helpful staff. You then walk to the medieval city and can leave your car by the hotel (no special parking area). Is a longish walk down an up to the old city, but good for the soul!!

Room Tip: costs extra if you want a terrace: useful if want more space in summer and area to sit out. Wifi very erratic.
