Owner description: An 800-year-old château with great rampart walks, views, and mildly interesting exhibits on local history and contemporary art.
Reviewed 26 July 2012

This former royal castle for the kings of Majorca has a lot to offer. First some very good views of the surrounding town, sea and hills, second art exhibitions which make very good use of the many available rooms. The castle is in a good state of renovation and has interesting fortifications from Vauban's days.

A beautiful castle offering magnificent views of Collioure. Just the right amount of information available to give the visitor a well informed insight into its history.

Christmas Market in Le Château Royal takes place for 2-3 weeks and it is a great event, so if you have the chance to be around Collioure in this season make sure you don't skip it. The decorations, especially festive lightning, were great and so was the entertainmet - music, performers on peg stilts, live animals for kids. Most of the goods on sale were arts&crafts but thewe found many stalls with local products like wine, honey, cheese and of course foie gras!

Lots to see and explore. Incredible views. The guide offered in English hardly gave any information... an English guide would have really helped.
