Grand Hotel Dechampaigne
Ranked #512 of 1,803 Hotels in Paris
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 21 November 2011

I am usually a bit posh. At the same time, I can like things that are charming, cosy and down to earth. The Grand Hotel Dechampaigne, located in a building from the 15th century, is all that. It is something about the atmosphere that appeals to me. Also, the location is perfect. You find the hotel in a small and very quiet street, Rue Jean Lantier, very close to the Chatelet tube station and one of the city's main streets; Rue de Rivoli. Chatelet is pretty much in the heart of Paris, in my opinion. The perfect location if you want to live in a central location. The Louvre, Notre Dame, Les Halles and Marais are within walking distance. The Opera district is close. This means that you are in the middle of major cultural sights and Paris' best shopping districts (Marais and Les Halles and Gallery Lafayette and Printemps in the Opera district). The beautiful river Seine is just around the corner from the hotel. Plus for free Internet acess, friendly and helpful staff (most of the time) and a very quiet room. The rooms were rather small, but that is very typical for Paris hotels. When checking out, they let me put my luggage in a room for six hours, so I could enjoy Paris for another day. I didn't try the breakfast, because there was such a nice restaurant and baker shop (boulangerie) just around the corner for the hotel. This time, I travelled alone, on a combined business an leisure trip, and I only had good experiences with the hotel, the area and the people of Paris. The hotel prices were also very good. The Grand Hotel Dechampaigne is not a place you go if you want to spoil yourself and indulge in luxury. But, it is the perfect place if you just want to relax, have a good time and spend your money on shopping and cultural experiences. It has lots of charm.

A bit hard to find a little alley, and a bit old school design, or perhaps that is the style they are going for. Otherwise clean hotel, good location, helpful staff.

Perfect location near the Louvre, Marais, Notre Dame, Pompidu. Balcony rooms are well worth the price - not a view of anything particular but a lovely view roof tops. Rooms 503 - 505 have bigger balaconies, 502's is small but still nice. Rooms are quirky in architecture and interior design. All around a great place. This will be our hotel of choice for Paris. Excellent value. Wifi was slow though.

Room Tip: Pick a balacony room. 503 to 505 have bigger balaconies but 502 is nice if a bit small.

This has been our Paris Hotel choice for over 20 years. It's location is the best. Steps from Chatelet and rue de Rivoli metro, and a two minute walk from Pont Neuf. We had a balcony,Garret room on the top floor. The room had all the amenities and the bed was very comfortable. Only complaint no English TV channel. Price is very reasonable and staff very accommodating. It is hidden on a back street so be sure you have it mapped. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The balcony top floor gives you the Parisian feel.
