Over the past twenty years every time I have been to Paris I always take a trip to Pere Lachaise. Its a good idea to be prepared for this trip by wearing decent shoes or boots, taking plenty of water and a decent map of the cemetery as its massive!!.The best time to go to really appreciate it is off season during the week, that way there wont be masses of people around Morrison or Oscar Wildes gravesite as these are two of the most popular.
Two things which are a big no no whilst here are: having a picnic in the grounds(this is still a working cemetery remember) and no littering or graffiti. I can remember not long after the Morrison gravesite was cleaned up and a new headstone erected by his parents, so called fans continued to desecrate the grave until barriers were put up.
Its an amazing, beautiful and atmospheric place, but remember and respect the residents and the relations of those that visit it.
