Owner description: Open every day of the year ! The medieval fortress dominates the village with its austere facade. But don't be daunted: the open drawbridge is an invitation to enter into the refined lodgings of a great lord. It is the most fully furnished castle of the Loire Valley. The hushed ambiance of the rooms and the splendor of the great reception halls will plunge you into the daily life of a 15th century prince. You will relive the event that distinguished the history of the locale: the wedding of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany, recreated with strikingly realistic wax figures. In the park, you will discover the recreated construction site of France's oldest keep. The promenade, punctuated with playgrounds and the tree house, can be followed through cedars and sequoias to the gazebo overlooking the Loire.

I like the ambiance of the chateau and the simplicity of the park.

“Chateau with loads to offer”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

As the other reviews indicate, Chateau Langeais has much to offer and avoids some of the pitfalls of other chateau. Avoiding some of the disadvantages, it is reasonable in size, not packed with tourists, and is located in a cute town. In this one location are the following to see: 10C donjon, 1491 chateau in one style (built quickly and has not been altered), medieval fortification features, rooms accurately furnished, explanations also in English, ability to wander at own pace and without crowds, working drawbridge, gorgeous views from the towers, useful pamphlet in English, gardens, outdoor room to wander and loads of fun to pack into an hour. This is the chateau was one of our favorite!

“Interesting stopover”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

Interesting park with a great tree-house for children to run around at the back of the castle. Quaint little castle, not too overwhelming and not a final destination.

“Not to be missed!”
Reviewed 22 September 2011

We almost left this idyllic area without stopping at Chateau Langeais, thinking that we should head out to larger, grander chateaus along the Loire River Valley. Do NOT rush out of this village without a stop to enjoy the beauty of this chateau.

“The best chateau in the Loire Valley”
Reviewed 11 August 2011

You may think I'm overstating it, but I really did enjoy this chateau more than Chenonceau or Azay le Rideau or Amboise. First, as the other reviewer stated, it was fully furnished and had cards in multiple languages to teach you about the history/uses of each room. Second, it was not insanely crowded like some of the other chateaux (Chenonceau!), so you could actually linger in each room or on the remparts or on the grounds and contemplate. Third, it was incredibly easy to get to the chateau from Tours by train and you had the added bonus of walking through the pretty, pleasant town that surrounds it. I definitely recommend it!
