Without any set plans, I arrived late one evening, dark and foggy... Dinan was kinda spooky. After checking finding pub hotels in the center (they were both full), I was directed to the Hotel de La Tour de L'Horloge. There was a room available, which included breakfast.
The owner of the hotel is lovely and showed me to a room at the very top of the stairs. It was bright (orange) and probably the largest hotel room I had during my trip to France. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and I slept well - like Goldilocks, everything was just right. I did not hear the clock chiming in the morning nor any street noise. Breakfast was good, coffee strong and excellent conversation about the hotel, the history of the building and the town.
I'm very happy to have found this hotel. It was well above what I would consider a two-star and fit my budget.
The downside? Entering the hotel on the main level, it is musty. The reception is on the second floor and you don't notice this smell on any other level. You will probably enter in the wrong door as well. There is a restaurant entrance on the main level - it is a separate entrance.
