Hotel de La Tour de L'Horloge
Ranked #10 of 16 Hotels in Dinan
Reviewed 21 April 2016

Without any set plans, I arrived late one evening, dark and foggy... Dinan was kinda spooky. After checking finding pub hotels in the center (they were both full), I was directed to the Hotel de La Tour de L'Horloge. There was a room available, which included breakfast.
The owner of the hotel is lovely and showed me to a room at the very top of the stairs. It was bright (orange) and probably the largest hotel room I had during my trip to France. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and I slept well - like Goldilocks, everything was just right. I did not hear the clock chiming in the morning nor any street noise. Breakfast was good, coffee strong and excellent conversation about the hotel, the history of the building and the town.
I'm very happy to have found this hotel. It was well above what I would consider a two-star and fit my budget.
The downside? Entering the hotel on the main level, it is musty. The reception is on the second floor and you don't notice this smell on any other level. You will probably enter in the wrong door as well. There is a restaurant entrance on the main level - it is a separate entrance.

Room Tip: It was quiet on the upper floor.

It was our first stay in Dinan. Our boat was 3 hours late which meant we ended up arriving just after midnight. The owner had already agreed a late checkin of around 10pm and had waited up for us. She was still very welcoming when we arrived super late and showed us to our room with nothing but smiles. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a charming small hotel in the heart of town - the location is perfect, and the staff is very friendly. After a first night in Dinan spent in the "worst hotel of the trip", I walked a few blocks to find this lovely place. The rooms are nothing special, but they are clean, large enough, and the bathroom is fine. And a great value. If you want good value in the heart of town, this is an excellent choice. Note we were on the top floor - with a nice view (though you had to walk up to the window to see it) - but that's 60 steps from the ground, with no elevator.

We stayed for one night here last week whilst travelling through to Brittany. It is right in the heart of Dinan, and we felt very lucky to find it. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, and our room was super huge, clean, and full of character. Breakfast was delicious with home-made compote and plenty of coffee, and our night was totally comfortable and warm. We were also able to leave our motorbike safely in the alley overnight, which was an added bonus. We had a recommendation from the hotel to eat at the Fleur de Sel and that was brilliant food too - best oysters ever! And the town speaks for itself - just beautiful. Having looked at the comments from some other visitors to the hotel, if you stay in a hotel called the clock tower, and it is in a medieval town, surely you expect some bells, and they simply augment the experience! They didn't disturb our sleep at all, and the view from the top of the clock tower was worth the climb! A really great stay, and we will definitely return if we go back to beautiful Dinan.

Room Tip: Room 2 was huge and quirky.

It was a clean and quiet two star hotel in the old city (L'Horloge is silent until 7.00 am!). The breakfast was good with the owner's home made preserves to accompany the classic Croissant and baguette. The slight down side was that you could hear the water noise as other people used water in the morning (not an issue if you are getting up early) and there was plenty of hot water. It was good for an overnight stay, and just what we wanted.
