“The staff more than make up for the tired rooms”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

Just spent two nights as part of a group of 9 couples celebrating a friends 60th birthday and we all have commented on how great the staff were. As a group we have previously stayed in hotels in Edinburgh, Dublin and York and none can match this stay.
Star award has to go to our waiter, Dante who was exceptionally helpful, hardworking and entertaining. Others deserving a mention are another waiter William, Anthony the concierge and all the barstaff. The management should be very proud of their staff.
We ate in the hotel on our first night and couldnt fault the service or the food. Yes, the rooms are tired, but they were clean, very comfortable and much larger than an average hotel room. The location is central, but the noise from outside is minimal.
We wouldnt hesitate in recommending this hotel to others or staying here again if we return to Manchester in the future.

Yes it is a good location and yes the staff are helpful but it is not up to Renaissance standards. The rooms are in need of a renovation. Please its 2012, don't give me a 19 inch TV when most Marriots have flat screens. Not even an executive lounge. The hotel is even ugly on the outside.

Stayed here just for the 1 night, rooms are extremely large for a city centre hotel with a seperate seating area and large bathroom. Very quiet and cannot hear the city noise. We had a room to the back of the hotel which overlooked the canals which was nice.
Staff were great, especially the concierge, opened the doors and always said hello.
Would stay here again next time I'm in Manchester for the night.
The location is great too, just a few minutes walk from the arndale centre and a short taxi ride to canal street area and some of the nightlife which was about £4 in a taxi (blackcab).

Room Tip: Back facing rooms are quieter as they face the canals rather than the main street.

I stayed here in Feb 2012 with 12 other girls.... the hotel is very nice and rooms are very spacious. The hotel in general could do with being modernised but it was still very comforting.
The parking was scandalous 16 pound to park per car for the night.
We were promised things in the room like dressing gowns etc, however was nothing for us and we were all very cold due to the heating not being very powerful.
The hotel food was very expensive so we decided to eat out.
The area was ok and in the middle of town but a bit close to the road.
If i was to come back to Manchester again i wouldn't stay here but glad i tried it.

We stayed here on a Saturday night in January 2012, the hotel is well situated close for all the city centre shpping and nightlife of Manchester. The lobby area and bar are well presented. The rooms however are very 90's and need updating and refreshing, not the standard you would expect from a Renaissance.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor, good views
