“"A Hotel we always feel comfortable in"”
Reviewed 1 February 2012

We have visited the Holiday Inn Lancaster on many occasions over the last ten years and find it a hotel with good facilities and a relaxing atmosphere......
On this occasion we found the experience comparable to the many times we have stayed before.
Upon arrival we were (as priority club members) offered an upgrade to an executive room (always gratefully accepted!!) by the friendly and professional receptionist, a good start!!

The room was clean, spacious and well equipped (flat screen TV's are a major improvement) and our son made his usual headlong dash for the swimming pool!! Leisure facilities good and clean as ever....and a major reason for our use of this hotel....
Evening pre meal drinks in the bar; served by a pleasant and helpful barman who agrees with me that a better range of beers could be stocked!! (boddies is not that nice!! perhaps a range of bottled beers is better?). The evening meal was pleasant and well presented, though the menu choice is becoming less and less each time we visit (no specials board or local produce) and though good quality is now "Pub grub" of an okay standard.
The breakfast was as expected, plentiful, hot and with plenty of coffee!! (though no scrambled eggs or black pudding!!)
The reason this is not a 5* excellent review? two things.....on check in we ordered 3 newspapers, two copies of the Times and one Daily Mirror... (we both like to do the Times crossword in the morning! a breakfast routine for us..) When i went to reception i was told "only one copy of The Times sorry" and "there is a garage 10 mins down the road" Oh dear...not being a morning person this did not go down well!! and the lack of choice in the restaurant.....
From my perspective an enjoyable stay marred by one silly error and a lack of menu choice....Holiday Inn it is the little things that make a difference!! 4* or 5* review? one newspaper and a few more menu dishes!!
For anyone who has never stayed we recommend this hotel (always ask for a river view room the Lune is lovely!!)

Room Tip: river view room much nicer!!

I stayed here on business in January for 1 night.

Reception-Was very welcoming when i arrived and efficient.

Rooms-Comfortable,spacious and clean.

Food-I only ate an evening meal but the food was well presented and tasted great.

Staff-The staff that i spoke with were very pleasant and obliging, especially the barstaff who served my meal.

All in all for a base, relaxing or a getaway i would recommend this hotel.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! From arriving at the hotel to leaving my stay was made enjoyable. Lizzie on reception was proffesional and friendly, and when my TV broke in my room, she quickly moved me into a more suitable room. The rooms and hotel were very clean and comfartable.
The choice of food and the quality of the food was delightful,
If you are staying in Lancaster the Holiday Inn is the place to be!.

Check in and room ok, as was gym however, from that point on everything felt like a rip off
£16 for broadband despite the fact I was both staying and attending a conference
£14 for a poor breakfast, and had to get the manager to authorise the refund to the £10 I was told it was.
Asked for room rate to be changed to include breakfast on check in (happy for the difference to be added just suited me to have it in the room rate), told it would be, on check out they hadn't and wouldn't/couldn't do it.
10% tip included on all drinks/bar food, but still have a box for gratuities - don't mind tipping but either make it descretionary or enforce it, but don't expect both.
Its a long time since I have left a hotel feeling so annoyed, unlike the Holiday inn's I used to often stay in.

Arriving at the Holiday Inn Lancaster was so easy and a happy start to our stay .
We were delt with very well at the reseption by Lizzie and spent a very nice comftalbe night in our room.

However when we came down in the morning at 0800 for breakfast we selected a table only to be told that it was only set for evening meal (Wine glass insted of water glass) and we would have to wait untill a table was available (the table was on the same floor in the same room as breakfast tables)

After ten mins we were shown to a table that wasn't fully set up and was still sticky

We then went to the "Buffet" when I say buffet the cooked meats were 3 sausages and 1 peice of bacon and the rest was a pittyfull display

So it was then over to the Toast lots of white and no brown. so I took my megre offerings back to the table to find my wife who, after 5 mins waiting, was getting rather anoyed that no one had brought any tea or coffee.

This could go on with lack of service, lack of plates, just to say that the restaurant was Under staffed and over worked a let down after such a nice night.
