Me and my husband have been going to the Chequers countless times since 1990 so have seen various managers come and go over the years but there are still familiar faces still there in the staff. We now take our daughters there for family meals and the present manager has definitely got a feel of what customers want from going to the Chequers. Although extremely expensive the food is delicious and cooked to perfection and the staff are all very friendly. Lovely to see that our local is maintaining high standards

Thank Karen B

Came to enjoy dinner for the first time at our nearest pub, and looked forward to it, given the mostly good reviews.
The start was chaos, with no-one obviously in charge of seating us ( we had booked a table). eventually went to the bar where one of the barmaids checked her computer and showed us to a table, distributing menus.. There we waited about ten minutes before getting any recognition that we existed.
Omce ordered, the starters came quickly and were excellent. Two of us had the fried whitebait, which were excellent.
The real problems came with the fish and chips main course, a litmus test meal for any pub. Some one at the chequers thought it would be cool and trendy to have relatively small square plates for the main courses. The only problem with this decision is that most pub food, including our fish and chips, is far too big for trendy little square plates. As a result the fried fish arrived on top of the chips, rendering them all soft and greasy.
The fish portion was generous, but the chips were dreadful The place needs to spend some money and buy some proper round plates.

Went for Sunday lunch friendly service . We had the Sunday roast beef. Beef a bit chewy and The whole meal was not very hot. Other that I enjoyed it but my husband and sister in law did not. We had dessert but again mine was Luke warm I had the white chocolate bread pudding which I must say was delicious. I mentioned to the waitress at the end of the meal that my dessert was not warm she apologised and said I should have given it back and they would have warmed it up, but not the point it should not ha e been served that way in the first place.
