Very noisy, you are able to wave to the passengers as they come in to land at Manchester. They need better insulation. No wardrobes or sensible sized drawers for clothes. Rooms also not so big. Coffee machine with no instructions made it impossible to use. Shower cubicle very slippery. Shower seal was faulty allowing water to seep out onto the bedroom floor.

People pleasant enough but the place is tired and smells a bit stale. Food was sub-par, greasy and bland fare. Thankfully occasion wasn't a client lunch! We stayed for a wedding last year and remembered it as better, although a bottle of perfume went missing from our room which was never satisfactorily resolved. Maybe its going down hill. Anyway, I'll be choosing somewhere else next time I’m in the area.

The Deanswater likes to trade on its history and historic it is – a time capsule straight out of the mid-twentieth century. Its clearly been in need of an upgrade for decades. That goes for both the decor and the menu (prawn cocktail, anyone?). The faux Tudor cum Scottish scheme is confused and a bit of a joke. Not sure anyone would mistake it for the real thing. Sums up the whole experience.

Check-in was fine but it was downhill from there. Room was cramped, dated and dirty. Harsh lighting, sticky carpets, an uncomfortable mattress and stained sheets were among the lows. The bathroom was ancient, water was scalding but low pressure. Towels had also seen better days. Long walking distances to/from room. Breakfast was equally meagre. Was tempted to walk out but couldn’t face 150 mile drive. Felt dirty and itchy in the morning. One of the worst I’ve ever stayed at.

Visited for mum-in-law’s birthday meal. The restaurant was depressing, décor straight out of the eighties – literally, judging by the general shabbiness – and none too clean. Ambience was none existent and there was a lingering smell of cabbage. The clientele seemed to be mostly local and elderly but that’s no excuse! Staff were rude and seemingly could not be bothered. We waited 40 mins for starters. Roast dinner was disgusting, seemed to be from frozen – dry, flavourless meat, watery veg and slimy gravy. Unsurprisingly we didn’t stay for desert. Very overpriced. Avoid!
