Ramada Crawley Gatwick
Ranked #26 of 28 Hotels in Crawley

First room that I have smelt heavily of cigarette smoke. They did change my room, but I had to walk back to reception with my luggage then walk onto the new room. Frontage of hotel is really nice but hides the monstrosity of the building behind. Could say it was cheap and cheerful but I expect a lot more from a Ramada Hotel

Room Tip: Choose a better hotel

The good:

The original part of the hotel is an attractive old world building. The George Hotel has been on this site since 1615 and was once considered to be one of the country's renowned coaching inns. It was also central to the plot of a novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Step out of the front of the hotel and you're right in the town centre. Plenty of restaurants, pubs, and shopping, even a Mall, within a short walk.

Pleasant breakfast room in the old part of the hotel. And as an added bonus there is a charming server working there at the moment.

Note that hotel does NOT have an airport shuttle. You can get a taxi to Gatwick but you don't have to. The train station is walkable or a very short taxi ride, less than 1/2 mile away where you can get a train direct to Gatwick, one stop.

TIP: If you pay for breakfast at the hotel it is currently £9.95 each,( a bit overpriced in my view). HOWEVER, If you book through the hotel's web site you can get breakfast for two for only £10. You cannot get it for this rate at the hotel, so don't bother trying. If you would like breakfast just book the rate that includes breakfast on the hotel web site. (which I'm apparently not allowed to include here, but I'm sure you know how to google it.)

Neutral: The the West Sussex Wing, the 'annex' is a much newer building that feels more like a standard motel. Some people have mentioned they prefer staying the old building for the character, but the annex is more likely to be quieter on a weekend night. Some people also mentioned that they don't like the fact that the floor creaks in the old building. You can avoid this by staying in the annex.

The not so good:

If you arrive by car through the back of the hotel, it's not impressive. The car park gives a rather poor first impression of the place. The car park badly needs resurfacing, and also needs proper lighting to make guests arriving at night feel secure. This is such an obvious thing I am not sure why the hotel hasn't done this yet.

Front desk service feels lackluster.

The original pub and restaurant has been unfortunately sold off or leased to another company and it has rather loud music on the weekend. We stayed in the back annex and didn't hear a thing.

The ideal thing for this hotel would be for it to be bought by owners who could bring it back to its former glory.

If you can overlook the flaws, it's an inexpensive stopover in Crawley, with a bit of history

Room Tip: The old part of the hotel has more character and history. The Annex is likely to be quieter.

Unfortunately chose this "hotel" as we had an early flight.
The room was dirty and dated, the smell of dope and cigarettes in the building was terrible, and the car parking was atrocious, we had to park next to an abandoned car that looked like it was used as a crack house!!! Don't waste your money stay somewhere else.

Booked 2 nights here, so we could get to Brighton quickly. Had the "Beau Brummel " Room. Fantastic, no great views, but so spacious! Lovely modern toilet shower and bathroom, sitting area, big soft bed and everything else you could want!! Breakfast fantastic, just across a small courtyard at rear, plenty of parking - and get your car washed for a fiver!!! It is very picturesque, so is most of the High Street. Great restaurant next door for a lovely meal, with20% off if staying at the Hotel!! All round a brilliant stay!!

Room Tip: At the back, or the room we had!!

We booked this hotel with a Purple Car Park package for Gatwick Airport and had read the reviews which were 'Terrible' 'Avoid'. However we were allocated room 404 which was spacious large flat screen tv, large bathroom, spotless. Tea making facilities and great comfortable bed. We used this hotel on the way back and were allocated the same room which was great. The hotel is one of the oldest in the area and is supposed to be haunted. Queen Victoria has stayed there.
The only negative side was that there were no lifts and the floors creaked.
I would recommend this hotel and ask for the same room as we were given, you will not be disappointed.
