We passed an hour in here with the little one, learning all about Swindon’s history. There are rooms focused on the community, famous Swindonians, ancient Egypt (complete with its own mummy!), prehistoric Swindon (with lots of dino fossils and a huge gharial!) and art.
There are lots of activities for the little ones, as well as colouring stations. It is a lovely little place to visit and the staff are really friendly and helpful.
My partner said there used to be a really good bit about Swindon during the Second World War, which was no longer there. It would be lovely to see Swindon during the war so that would be the only improvement we can think of. Loved it!

We visited the art gallery this afternoon. Spent about 45 minutes looking around this small bug well presented and cared for gallery. Useful information about the artwork, peaceful gallery and a lovely way to spend an hour or so. And it's free!

Free and interesting, small but well worth a visit. On 3 levels so a tad difficult but not impossible. Friendly staff,I went on Tuesday morning so it was quiet and of course free!

Swindon deserves a better museum than this bt no doubt money is the explanation. I believe plans are afoot to update and upgrade it and if this happens I shall revisit and report again
There are items of interest but not presented as well as I would llke but the paintings are more impressive but not really to my taste
Im sorry to be so negative but one must report as one finds

We went primarily to see some of the collection of modern british art, which we had heard was among the best in the country. As the result of some bequests and some very shrewd buying, the collection is now about 500 pieces. Sadly, fewer than 100 can be put on display at any one time, but that's a good reason to go regularly to see the well-curated exhibitions...and to support the plan to get funding for a new, larger gallery. We also checked out the permanent exhibitons in the museum, and were wowed by the collection of roman artefacts from wanborough and the small egyptian romm. Both had activities for young visitors which was good to see
