“Fantastic Place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2011

Walked some of the Wicklow Way from Dublin to Glengalough in August. We stayed in The Wicklow Way Lodge on our second night. It was perfect and we would recommend it to anyone on the walk or just as a place to stay surrounded by our fantastic countryside.
We were met with a glass of well earned water and shown to our room. The room was a double ensuite with a balcony. Everything was spotless and fresh.
The land lady Marilyn drove us to Roundwood for food later on and arranged for her husband to pick us up in a few hours.
The atmosphere was relxed but very friendly. A great place run by lovely people.

We started our Mid-July 10 day Irish vacation at the Wicklow way lodge. Truly a wonderful start to a great vacation. The innkeepers were fantastic, they suggested a great hike to show us some truly beautiful country. Marilyn suggested the Wicklow heather for supper and it was superb. Of course you have to have the porridge for breakfast. The inn is modern, clean, comfortable, and has a wonderful view of the surrounding country side. It’s off most tourists radar, so the inn is truly the Wicklow Mountain’s “hidden gem”. I look forward to staying at the lodge a few days longer the next time I visit Ireland.

the owners were away on Christmas tree business but the delightful Irina took care of us with the most kind, loving and warm hospitality! she made sure the Wicklow Heather in Laragh was still serving and drew us a map how to get there (just 6 K from lodge). You MUST eat there! Awesome food and it has a library room with pages from great writers framed by the table.
Our deck room was a dream--high ceilings, stark white walls, set off by the deep beautiful curtains and intense colors chosen--red shag pillows on white wicker chairs was an edgy choice that really worked! Lovely crystal wineglasses in the room. And the breathtaking view!!
As far as breakfast, the bacon was so tasty, no fat, more like ham, and that porridge is making my stomach growl right this minute just thinking about it! Next time we will stay longer! Thank God a place like this exists and is affordable.

Wicklow Way Lodge was our first stop ( for two nights ) on our third trip to Ireland. An excellent choice it turned out to be, despite its surprising omission from Steves and Frommer. ( We found it in Lonely Planet's "Hiking in Ireland". ) Modern, spotlessly clean, and well maintained by an especially warm couple, Seamus and Marilyn Kinlan, Wicklow Way Lodge is well known among Irish travelers, but insuffiently known by Americans. Our room, one of the two large front rooms with balconeys, had a marvelous view of the mountains, with large windows on the front and right sides affording glorious views. Full Irish breakfasts are bountiful, with Marilyn's fabulous porridge being the best porridge we were to enjoy on this trip. Seamus is tremendously helpful, not only in suggesting area 'to-dos", but also in mapping out best routes for getting around ( and out of ) the area. Also in suggesting good restaurants and pubs. He and Marilyn exemplify the best in Irish B and B owner/hosts. For all the this, the price, at 50 Euros per person per night for a front room with balcony, was reasonable. We enthusiastically recommend Wicklow Way Lodge to all U.S. travelers who include the Wicklow Mountains area in their itineraries, whether or not they're into day walking among the many great trails in the Wicklow National Park area.
