This is a beautiful working Catholic cathedral. I liked the local touch of Waterford Crystal lights.

This Cathedral is on the main shopping street in Waterford. It is not that imposing from the outside, but the inside is a real surprise. It is huge, bright with a wonderful working tradition period working Organ above the main entrance in the Organ gallery. There are 2 large side gallery’s with some beautiful original mahogany features. This is the only church I have been in where all the chandeliers are Waterford Crystal – very impressive to see so many large chandeliers in one open space. The atmosphere is so peaceful despite its busy setting. Another interesting feature is the steel bars that run between the top of the huge pillars. I enquired with the staff and was informed the they are there to prevent the support pillars from tilting as the Cathedral is built on soft soil of the original river back of the river Suir (which is now further back). There were a retrofit when subsidence became a concern! I am not a religious person but I do appreciate magnificent architecture.

Quite a cavernous church, with a wide, flat facade. Hoowver, some of the decorative touches inside, especially around the pillars, are very attractive.

This is the oldest and most beautiful Catholic Cathedral in Waterford and possibly in Ireland. It's architecture is amazing and it's just beautiful and special.

Although not catholic we visited this site and even attended mass. The inside structure was much more impressive than the outside. Would have loved to understood the significance of the outside statues.
