Owner description: The magnificent curved facade of the warm butter-coloured stone building draws in the visitor. The eye-catching giant sculpture on the gable was inspired by a tiny 13th century belt mount found in Waterford. It is Ireland’s only purpose-built medieval museum and the only building on the island to incorporate two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th century Mayor’s Wine Vault. Don't miss the stunning Heavens' Embroidered Cloths, Waterford's cloth-of-gold 15th century vestments, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII's reign to survive in the world - the 'Cap of Maintenance' and the Great Charter Roll from 1373, containing the earliest contemporary portrait of a medieval English king (Edward III) shown to Queen Elizabeth on her 2011 state visit to Ireland. These and many more unique artefacts await you on your guided tour of the award wining Medieval Museum.

We visited here on Wednesday 1st July and on arrival, we were greeted by an archer. What a lovely and knowledgeable man! Very much enjoyed our chat with him and my husband loved the small archery demonstration. Then we had the luck of being on the guided tour with the museum director....what a treat! A pleasure to view the museum with a man so truly passionate about it...full of interesting anecdotes and stories. My husband is NOT a fan of museums....he came purely because I wanted to go. But he loved it and really enjoyed the tour. I would highly recommend this to everyone...in my eyes, it's a must-do in the wonderful city of Waterford.

Good morning Coffeeaddict1984

Many thanks for your brilliant review and for bringing along your husband to see what we have to offer and delighted that we disappoint him!

We now do Medieval Archery here in the Medieval Museum and its proving to be a great attraction for all. You definitely had a lucky day getting the Director to give you the guided tour, we do let him out of his office from time to time and it is always a great success with our visitors.

Please tell all your friends of your wonderful experience of your recent visit and we look forward to having you come again in the future!

We only had about an hour to spend after visiting the Bishop's Palace, but this is an amazing place. Even if you are part of a tour group. If you have time off in the evening, take time to go to the Bishop's Palace and Medieval Museum. They are right next to each other and include a package price of $10 euro. We spent an hour in each museum after getting the evening off from our group. The guides are very friendly, and informative. They have wonderful hidden treasures. You will be glad that you did!

Good morning Irisheyes

Thank you for your recent visit to the award winning Medieval Museum, we really love to hear what people think of their visit and you obviously enjoyed it.

The guided tours are the best way to see the museum and the fact that you can wander back through the museum after the tour gives you more time to thoroughly enjoy all of the artefacts that we have on display.

We look forward to your next visit!

Good morning

Many thanks for your review of your visit to the award winning Medieval Museum, we do appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you enjoyed it, thank you!

There is plenty to see within the award winning Medieval Museum, its the only museum in Europe built over two National Monuments, the 13th century Choristers Hall and the 15th century Mayor's Wine vault, we then have two floors of fantastic artefacts which include the Great Parchment Book of Waterford from 1350, the Great Charter Roll which was commissioned in 1373, the stunning collection of High Mass Vestments, the 'Cloth of Gold Vestments from 1468, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII to survive, the 'Cap of Maintenance' from 1536, and a relic of the true Cross in a case from circa 110AD, a gift from Pope Paschal as well as the many other artefacts and audio visual presentations in the different auditoriums on each floor.

Not alone are the contents worth seeing, but as you mentioned, the outside is stunning also, we are so delighted that you enjoyed your visit, we do hope you get an opportunity to visit us again!

Waterford is a delightful city with a rich history.Plenty of attractions suit families with children. The walking tour is good.As is the Waterford Crystal tour and the Medieval Museum(take the guided tour option). If time limited, both these are the best of a rather impressive list of attractions. There good car parks in Waterford all along the quayside.
