“Nice tribute to an incredible man”

Thomas Francis Meagher statue
Reviewed 14 August 2017

I won't bother to repeat what other reviewers have written, Thomas Meager was a Hero to the Irish people but was also a hero in the U.S. Civil War. He is also credited with the creation of the Irish Republic Flag. There is a nice plaque below the statue that tells about him. Worth a close-up look.

A nice statue of the Waterford Native, with a plaque explaining who he is. Its position is the biggest problem given it is not very accessible due to being in an island in a busy corner/junction

Thomas Francis Meagher had a checkered history both in the U.S. and in Ireland, but there's no argument he's worth the magnificent statue that stands at the end of Meagher's Quay in Waterford. American Civil War buffs will be gratified to see the commander fo the Irish brigade commemorated in his home town, just a few steps from where he first flew the Irish tricolor, which later became Ireland's national flag, and from where he was arrested for his involvement in the failed 1848 rising in Ballingarry Ireland.

This statue is a significant statue memoralizing Meagher. It is located right in the middle of a Main Street

It was surreal looking at the statue of Thomas Meagher in the middle of the road in Waterford, Ireland. My home state of Montana has a county named after Meagher, as well as several statues around the state. Meagher had quite a life, as he went from outlaw in Ireland to Governor of the Montana territory. It was a cool connection for us from Ireland to Montana, but the statue sits in the middle of the street and not much hoopla. Just a statue.
