First time on the Island and will definately not be last. Stayed at the lighthouse and was delighted with the hospitality from start to finish.
Roie and her staff could not have been more pleasant. Room was spotless and the gorgeous view of Achill Island didn't hurt either. Loved how easy it was to get to know and enjoy other guests through dining together for breakfast and dinner.
Food delicious and always served piping hot (which I love).
Our every need from information about Island and walks were supplied. Lovely spot and amazing views of the ocean.

Overpriced waste of money BEWARE tourist trap by by the greedy keeper of the greasy till, do not go there you will be disappointed, for the same money you can book a holiday in a warm climate rather than be lashed out of it by wind and rain,

We are always happy to receive and comment on qualified criticisms that improve our business. We can’t see any reason to reply to this review, as we appear to have no record of this reviewer having stayed as a guest at Clare Island Lighthouse during August.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in such an historical building with stunning views across Achill Bay. Our room ,Achill View, was beautifully converted and very comfortable. The food and wine were top class. Our host and her staff were very helpful and friendly. One of the warmest memories was the convivial atmosphere we shared with the other guests.

My partner and I were celebrating a special occasion and we chose a weekend at the Lighthouse followed by 3 days in Westport, as recommended by Roie the manageress of the Lighthouse. What a good choice we made! The memories of these special places will stay with us forever.

The initial comms were so helpful and so friendly, which made all the pre-planning very easy. We had an easy drive from Knock Airport and then a 40 minute ferry crossing to the island. We'd even been advised where to go for lunch on the way. Roie was there at the harbour to meet us and drive us up to the Lighthouse.

The views and sunsets were spectacular. The food was excellent and we shared a table with 2 other couples. What an interesting and entertaining chat we had, it made the weekend even more special as if we'd been in an ordinary hotel we'd probably not have spoken that much to other couples being there just for a weekend.

Our room, the Sauna Suite, is detached from the Lighthouse main building and is a large very well fitted room with nearly as much glass as a greenhouse. The views were amazing even from the windows in the large very easy to use sauna. Perfect place for recovering and relaxing after a long walk on the island.

The Whitehouse in Westport is a fairly short drive from the harbour and is a 1 bedroom terraced house with a courtyard garden. It has been refurbished to a high standard and is VERY nice. Again, the initial comms with Rachel were so so good and she made us very welcome in her house and town. Flowers and chocolates had been arranged and sourced prior to arrival, as had bookings in the 2 nicest restaurants along with 2 pages of info on what was available and recommended in Westport. So useful when you're only there for a short time. First class help from Rachel with the stay.

The fridge was stocked and there was food in the cupboards. You could arrive after the shops were shut and it. wouldn't matter. Parking was easy and free. Westport is a lovely clean little town with quite a few free live music venues in the evening. It's nothing like the crowded hustle and bustle of Dublin and was a pleasure to walk round during the day and the evening.

If you want burger bars, crowds, bright lights and lots of busy pubs don't go to the Lighthouse. If you want to walk and enjoy amazing sea views and then relax in a beautiful and unique place being very well fed and looked after then it's for you. Add on the Westport visit and you'll experience Irish food, music and hospitality at it's best, in my opinion. The people in the town were so friendly.

Roie and Rachel are both very good at making sure your visit is one to remember. We will certainly remember our trip and we send them both our sincere thanks again.
