We turned up on a Sunday morning in March, unannounced, and wanted to rent a bike for my 5 year old to follow us as we walked the greenway with our 18 month old in the buggy. Unfortunately there were no bikes small enough to fit our son but the solution was two adult bikes and a trailer that we could tow the two little ones behind. We only wanted the bikes for an hour and the price was very reasonable. We were under no pressure to bring the bikes back in a hurry and could have held onto them for the day if we wanted. We had a lovely spin around Westport on the greenway and around Westport house. The boys had a great time in the trailer behind my bike. The service was really good, the bikes were well maintained and we had no problems with them. I would recommend Clew Bay Bike Hire and will probably be back to do the whole length of the greenway in the summer when we can be dropped at one end and spend the day cycling back to the shop.

We called up, out of the blue, on a late February Monday looking for bicycles to experience the Greenway. We heard that Clew Bay Bike Hire was the one to call, and Dave answered the call. It was amazing - within an hour, Dave had us (and two bikes) in his van heading out to Achill (the western start point of the Greenway). The bikes were in good condition, easy to cycle, and no problems. We spent a magical afternoon, cycling, stopping to look at landscapes which took your breath away, taking time out in the a few places for refreshments (faultless recommendations from Dave), arriving back in Westport with plenty of time to savour the town before dinner. Thanks a mil, Dave!

We spent the weekend in Achill, the weather was mostly cloudy and some rain, but we decided to hire the bikes and attempt the greenway.

The team at Clew bay bikes were very accommodating even though we made a late booking, they met us at their depot at half ten on a saturday morning, in the back of the carpark at "Óstán Oileán Acla" (Achill Island Hotel) which is right on edge of the mainland side of the bridge. Staff were very friendly and ensured we all took hi viz vests, helmets and bikes which were all sized correctly.

The bikes were in very good condition, we had one technical breakdown about 4km into the cycle, but Clew bay bikes were excellent in getting a replacement bike out to us in their van, no hassle at all and we only lost about 10 minutes on our cycle.

The route we chose was along the greenway from Achill sound, through Mulranny to Newport town, but if you have enough time, you could continue all the way to westport. Clew bay bikes arranged to meet us in Newport, at the Grainne Uaile pub, at the end of our journey and ferried us the 1 hour drive back to Achill

there were 7 of us, all of different physical fitness levels, but the route was very manageable.

Even though the weather closed on once or twice, we all had rain jackets, hats and gloves and the ride itself was very pleasant. the views both north and south were spectacular and wild, just what you'd expect in this part of the country. We met a few people along the route going in both directions and stopped for a drink in both Mulranny (where Clew bay bikes had a staff member meet us at another depot in the old railway station) and finally in newport, in Grainne Uaile pub, where we had some fantastic pub food to finish the afternoon off.

Cant recommend these guys enough, Thanks Clew bay bike team, you made the weekend for us! We will be back again :)

We drove the short distance from Westport to Newport and hired 4 x bikes from Dave for my wife and I and our two teenagers and cycled from Newport to Achill on Friday afternoon - approx 32km. Hiring the bikes couldn't have been easier and they were all in excellent condition. Dave sized the bikes for everyone and provided helmets, high viz vests and some friendly directions and advice. The Greenway was excellent. Paths were very safe, clean and very well signposted. No real hills and the views were excellent. We stopped for a short break in Mulranny and then continued on to Achill where Dave collected us at the arranged perfect location in the local hotel where I treated myself to a delicious bowl of chowder and a necessary pint of guinness !
First class friendly service from Dave which capped a perfect family afternoon.

We went for one premium and one electric bike and cycled from Westport to Achill 'with the breeze (allegedly) behind us'!

The electric bike is a good choice for those a little nervous and afraid they might run out of puff - its not cheating, as the Dave the owner would say, its about enjoyment!

Everything was waiting for my wife and I when we arrived to pick up the bikes. Dave gave us an excellent briefing of what to expect, turns to look out for and how he and his staff were available to provide help if we needed it.

The bikes were in good nick and there was plenty of charge in the electric bike when we finished. Helmets and HiVis vests are provided. Panniers are also available.

The Greenway itself is very pretty and well maintained. The views are excellent as you would expect. There are stopping off points in all the towns along the way and the Nevins Inn about a km off the track at the halfway mark.

We were picked up bang on time at the agreed meeting point and whisked back to our starting point where we had parked up our car. The chat with Tom the driver (and all round bike mechanic) was mighty! It was great to experience such genuine enthusiasm.

We fancy coming back to experience the sea kayaking tour and maybe even try 'the Challenge'(see the website)
