Our first visit to The Mariner Hotel, located in the heart of Westport, was for a mid-day snack – the soup of the day served with homemade brown bread was so good we decided to book some rooms there. We got an L-shaped room with a sloped roofs and modern fittings and products. Good water flow in the shower and free WiFi reception. For dinner, in the Curious Fish Restaurant one of the group had the garlic and chilli prawns as an appetiser and others had seafood chowder with local fish and shellfish. For mains one guest had the Black Angus 10oz Prime Rib Eye Steak (€28.50) with sautéed onions, skin-on fresh chips, house pickles, and a homemade sauce, green peppercorn, with madeira jus. The guest is very hard to please with steaks and for once there were no negative comments, so we took that as a high recommendation indeed.
The public car park is conveniently located in across the road and prices reasonably cheap. There is a relaxed ambience and the staff friendly and helpful, including the lady from Roumania on her first day. We plan to return.More
