Make sure that you do this on a bright clear day. Take a walking stick as you will need it and take your time.

This is a demanding hike, so be prepared. Weatherproof clothing may not be enough, you'll need to dress in layers! Wear a waterproof hiking jacket/clothing and hat, a crazed friend made the climb barefooted. The day may start bright and sunny, but as you ascend, the clouds come down where there might not be much to see. Be able to run 2 miles nonstop or be able to climb 180 steps nonstop. If you don't exercise regularly, just don't go. Seriously, you'll hurt yourself and it it is very difficult to get help. The top 3rd of the mountain is an actual climb with very loose large stones. Bring at least 2 liters of water and food to replenish. Very rewarding in the end. For us, the view was not so much, the fog was too thick. :)

My friend and I just went to this amazing place and hiked all the way to the top! The whole time we were hiking (or rather clawing our way through the rocks), I thought of all the people that had come before! It's so special when you get to the top and see the Chapel and look down on the beauty of the place!! Incredible!!!!

The views from Croagh Patrick are stunning. This one is a real challenge. I saw people of all ages from 6 to 81 managing well.I saw people of all ages struggling. My phone said it was the equivalent of 185 floors up. The key was taking it slowly. Any climber needs strength sufficient for one’s weight and decent balance (especially for going down). A certain degree of agility helps as well. Loose rocks are the norm, especially for about the top third. A walking stick is a must unless you have the grace of a ballerina. If you are patient and take your time, sidewinding on your way down, it will be fine. But if you never exercise normally, don’t even think about it. My Fitbit gauged it at about 20,000 steps from bottom to top and back again. It is well worth what took me, as a pretty active 54 year old, 3 1/2 hours to navigate. If you need to clear your head, the cool clean air and the ability to think of nothing but your next step will be medicine!
