“In my home town”

This is a very beautiful church and in the centre of our town. It holds the head of Oliver Cromwell on display for all to see. Free of charge. A place in Drogheda not to be missed. Go in and admire the great work that was done in this magnificent structure.

“Unique place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 weeks ago

If you are visiting this part of the country you have to visit St. Peters church. When you approach the broad steps outside you are entering a wonderful feast for the senses. The scent as you walking in is the first thing that hits you. It is incense mainly but there are other scents that mingle with it that make you feel welcomed. The church looks dark but this seems to make the light from the stained glass windows more intense and colourful.

Obviously the main attraction here is the head of St. Oliver Plunkett. It is fascinating to see if not slightly strange. Probably unique in Ireland. The story of his death and martyrdom is told really well on the walls surrounding his display. It is a really interesting display.

The rest of the church should be explored. It really is a wonderful place to meander around and explore it's history. It is a must see for any person visiting Ireland.

“Must See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Even if your not in Drogheda town it's well worth making the effort to visit St Peter's simply for the little side altar/museum regarding St Oliver Plunkett - a Catholic Arch-Bishop who was hung, drawn and quartered for treason (promoting the Catholic faith) in the 17th century. The side altar contains the head of St Oliver on display. You can get right up to it and see it from all angles.

In the centre of the town - very interesting reading about Oliver Plunkett and what happened to him - also that his head is kept in the church

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2017

Went to see St. Oliver's Head, but was pleasantly surprised to find such a lovely church in Drogheda. The windows may not be as elaborately done as in some more well-known cathedrals, but they were beautiful never-the-less.
