The Butler House has a lovely and convenient setting--across from Kilkenny Castle and at the beginning/end of the Medieval Mile. Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome, and despite being early, our rooms were ready. Our room was of good size, with all of the expected hotel amenities. There was an electric tea kettle and an assortment of teas and coffees. Although the room was advertised as having a double bed--it seemed more like a king to us. The bathroom was small and windowless. Our room had a view of the street while our friends' had a view of the gardens and Kilkenny Castle. Free parking was a available at the back/side of the hotel. Access to the lot is narrow and would be challenging for a large car. Parking spaces were also very narrow. Drivers should be sure to push in side mirrors to avoid having them damaged. (There was about 6 inches of space between our car and the one that parked next to us--not sure how the driver got out.)

Room tip: Request a garden view. It's prettier and quieter.

We were very excited about our trip to Kilkenny and wanted to enjoy a nice hotel. We chose the butler for the quality of the reviews and the reputation. We were happy with the first impression ( free parking easy to find, ability to get the room quite early, very huge room with an incredible big bath and a shower. But some little things were a bit disappointing such as : no bath robe nor slippers, double bed a bit small despite there was space for a bigger one, noise from the street, in the morning we had to cross people coming for a seminar and it seemed the staff was more busy with them than with the clients from the hôtel and the breakfast buffet felt a bit small for the standing of the place but good fresh cooking, and finally there was a mistake in the bill but when I showed the confirmation from booking they could change it immediately.

Looking for a little taste of luxury and coming to the end of a long road trip, we chose to stay one night at this property, and then wished we were staying longer.

The house is beautifully furnished and shows off the wonderful interior decorative plasterwork with plush carpets underfoot.

Check in was smooth and Reception extremely helpful.

There was free parking on site. Entry to the carparking area is via the side street to the right of Butler House when facing the building. Drive up to the barrier to enter but exit possible only with passcode.

Location was ideal, a few steps out the front door, wander down the Medieval Mile, and you are in the town centre where there are lots of options for eating out and the Supervalue and Dunnes supermarkets.

Our triple room was situated on the second floor, it was cosy and spacious with a double and a single bed, a separate dressing room and the bathroom was down a few steps off to one side of the dressing room. There was no lift, none expected.

Tea and coffee and two bottles of water on a tray in room. Perhaps a little thought required on where to place the tray as it was a little tricky trying to boil the kettle with the short power cord.

Beds were very comfortable.

Bathroom was huge, with a bath and a shower, and clean.

Toiletries provided. Safe deposit box in room.

Free WIFI worked fine.

An excellent and hearty breakfast at your leisure. There was a good selection of hot dishes as well as the continental option or both. An assortment of dried fruits and nuts to go with the cereals and a choice of pastries also on offer. Then there was toast with spreads and tea, coffee and a choice of fruit juices. Wait staff very efficient.

The hot breakfast serve portion was generous.

We did not have time to wander the gardens or enjoy the outdoor dining.

One night stay priced accordingly for the standard of accommodation.

We celebrated a Family occaison recently that saw all ages catered for in a classy, unfussy and elegant manner that put everyone at ease and enjoying the celebration. The gardens provide a good space for the younger members to run around and blow off a bit of steam while the generous furnishing are comfortable enough to while away the time chatting.

The only item I would draw attention to is the toilet is down a few steps for those that are less able physically - there is a toilet in a side door but this is harder to find.

Thank you for taking the time to give us such wonderful feedback, I am so happy to hear that your family enjoyed celebrating your occasion here at Butler House. I have taken note of your comment regarding the accessible toilet's visibility and we will put additional signage in place to rectify the issue of it being harder to find.

Thank you once again for taking the tine to give us your feedback, and for choosing Butler House as the venue for your family occasion, I hope to welcome you back to Butler House in the near future.

This hotel was great. The rooms were cozy and comfortable. The location was key, we were just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the town but just far enough away that we slept soundly. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely delicious and the staff very friendly. A bonus was the free parking!
