We stayed at the NewPark Hotel in July 2009 in a family room. The room itself and bathroom were very tastefully decorated and looked great. But that's where the good parts ended. There were a lot of negatives about this place:

1. NO AIR CONDITIONING - As others have stated below, the room was VERY WARM, unbearably so at night when we were trying to sleep. There is no air conditioning, and I realize that ordinarily it's not required in Ireland, but this place is an exception because for whatever reason the rooms in this place hold the heat making the rooms unbearably hot. There is only a single narrow window in each room that opens about a 4" crack, so I spent most of the evening hovering over that window crack trying to get some cool air - not fun. However, the lobby is wonderfully air conditioned, which is probably why we saw a lot of people hanging out down there.
2. Every hotel I have ever stayed in provided some kind of fact sheet/book about what services are available at the hotel, information, etc. There was none in the room, so we were clueless about what services were provided, etc.
3. Internet access was only available in the hotel lobby. Which might not be so bad if you're going there to escape the unbearably hot room, but really, it should be available in the rooms as well.
4. I saved the worst for last - the water supply is tinted yellow - I mean urine yellow. It was quite disgusting. I realize that Kilkenny probably draws its water supply from the River Suir (sewer?) that winds through the town which has a lot of brown tanins in it, but NewPark really needs to invest in it's own water purification between them and the water main to remove the colorants. I didn't dare take a bath in it, and we didn't want to venture to the pool because we could just imagine what they must have looked like.

The hot room and the urine-looking water were enough to make me to not want to stay here again.

We had a two night break with one meal recently which was very reasonably price. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable with a well equipped bathroom. Only quibble would be that the room was too hot-the corridors seem to be overheated and even though we had the heating off in the room and the windows open the heat still radiated in. Dinner was average hotel fare but the staff in both the restaurant and the bar were friendly and efficient. Best of all was the leisure centre and spa-the outdoor hot tub was spectacular. We also had a couple of treatments in the spa and both the therapists and the aveda products they used were really excellent.

three of us stayed for a three night midweek break, we got a very good deal and were pleasantly surprised by the hotel especially the leisure area. All the staff that we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. Some areas were getting a fresh lick of paint and a few signs to remind you of same wouldn't have gone astray - when it's on the bedroom door when u exit the room it's a little hard to avoid! Overall it was a lovely stay

my self and a few of my friends were at the newpark for a friends wedding and we were all plesantly supprised with the hotel, we booked our room over the internet for 99 euro for 3 of us in one room ,so 33 euro each was a very small dent in the pocket which left us with more money to give to the very friendly bar people, we could not get over the amount of irish staff in the hotel all saying hello to us as if they knew us for years. had a really great night and would recomend

I spent a weekend with a friend at this hotel and overall had a great stay. The room was a reasonable size, clean and a decent bathroom. However, the room was quite hot and although we turned off the heating we had to have the window open at night. The TV in the room was basic and only had a few channels and no instructions on how to use it. The room looked out to a field which could be charming, but there was building equipment scattered around so it spoilt the view. There was a wedding every day on that weekend (three days) and so people were slamming doors all night and it woke me up a few times during the night.
The restaurant was great, and the service was OK - some of the staff need lessons in customer service as they didn't seem bothered about going out of their way to help us. The spa was OK, but not as good as other hotels in Ireland and as the leisure facilities were open to the public they were very busy and had children messing about in the pool.
I had an OK stay but would recommend this hotel as a wedding venue and not as a place for a quiet weekend away.
