Owner description: A stately castle dating back to the 13th century.

A beautiful country house/Castle dating back to the medieval period. Well kept and cared for with helpful stewards who were more than willing to impart their knowledge of the site. As good as anything you would see on the mainland, and well worth a visit. NB Parking is not easy as the on street parking near the castle is normally full, parking in the public car park by the river behind Dunnes Stores is probably a better bet.

Kilkenny Castle is a beautiful castle to visit. Adult tickets are 8. There is public parking nearby but we stayed at Rosquil House B&B and were able to walk to the castle from there, so no need for parking. The grounds are lovely. Make sure to see the audio-visual presentation before you go inside the castle. It gives you some history on the castle. You will need about 1 hour here. Enjoy.

The castle was very neat to tour around in! There were lots of rooms to check out and was neat to take a self tour of the facility. The park ground is amazing and had fun views out of the castle.

Kilkenny is a beautiful place and a trip there wouldn't be complete without a trip to the castle. Be aware that this castle has been heavily restored over the years to bring it back to the condition that you see it now. If you are expecting a medieval castle you will be disappointed as the interior looks more like and english aristocratic home from the victorian era. It is a fascinating place though with helpful staff. The grounds, which are free to visit, are a nice place to relax if the weather cooperates.

The castle was very nice but a lot areas were still being developed. The tour was self-guided with individual guides in each area to go over the history of the room. I really didn't mind this but the quality of the guides were a bit of a hit or miss. Some of the guides were well-versed but others were awful and hard to listen to - especially a women from France who clearly did not know much about her area. I was disappointed that they only showed two bedrooms that were used by vistors of the castle and none of the bedrooms used by the family members.
