“A lovely stay but....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2012

I and my husband visited the brehon hotel last week for a relaxing break. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are spacious and the staff is really friendly and professional. We had treatments in the spa which were pure bliss. The restaurant was a nice experience too. The manager Andras really made sure we had a memorable experience. The only but is that we requested, at the time of the booking and the check in, a quiet room and we were not only given a room next to a family with small children but the housekeeper started vacuuming the corridor at 8.30!!! So we ended up checking out at 10.00.

Stayed here for two nights in mid February. Spacious room, with wi fi throughout. We used the spa which was nice and relaxing. There seemed to be tennis courts adjacent but we didn't bother with same as our physical exercise came with two long walks. The first through National Park out to Ross Castle and on out to point. The second far more strenous was up to Torc Waterfall car park and following the red route. Both routes begin less than a five minute car journey from hotel.
On the first night we ventured into town (15 minute walk) to eat. The receptionist was very helpful in giving us impartial advice. We ended up in the smoke house a really nice spot. The second night we ate in the hotel bar- I'm vegetarian and what a treat it was. They gave me a menu with four starters and four main courses to choose from. An embarrasssing rich choice as most veggies will agree. We also had breakfast on both mornings and the food was top class.
That second night we got to see Killarneys own film star Michael Fassbender on the big screen in local cinema in the film 'shame'. A special treat.
However the nicest part of stay for me was the very courteous and warm service from staff which ranged across all parts of the hotel from spa to bar to housekeeping. One of the reasons we choose the hotel was because it is part of the fairhotels scheme and if that in anyway reflects on staff happiness and pride in their place of work, well then it certainly showed on our stay.

Room Tip: rooms to the front and side have great views of lakes and mountains

We really enjoyed our stay here great location near the inec. Staff were friendly and helpfull, not too intrusive. Ate in the bar on arrival and it was good fare. My wife really enjoyed the spa. Very good value

My husband & I with our 2 year old stayed here for just one night in early Feb. Entrance & foyer look impressive, hotel overall was very clean, bright & modern. Staff friendly & helpful.Room was a corner room at the front with a mountain view, very spacious, modern tv, bed extremely comfortable- & plenty of room when our 2 year old climbed in from his cot in the early hours!!
We had room service for dinner - food was fresh, hot & very tasty.
The only issue really is that I did not realise the hotel does not have its own pool facilities for under 18's- so we had to go across the carpark to the Gleneagles pool- which was nice but a bit awkward.
I popped down to the Vitality Suite in the Spa, lovely facilities & very relaxing.
I do think this hotel is a little overpriced but we did have a lovely stay, hence the "very good" rating
Overall a lovely stay, but more for

My boyfriend and I have stayed in the Brehon on five occasions now and always depart very happy and looking forward to our next return. We have always had a lovely room with spectacular views. Had food in the bar and even though there was a mix up with the order we thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff so friendly and pleasant. Always efficient when emailing regarding our reservation. Can't wait to return for stay number 6!
