“ROSS CASTLE IRELAND LANDMARK OF KERRY'S HISTORY”

Of course we would recommed seeing THIS GREAT IRISH CASTLE for us DECENDENTS OF THE MUIRCHEARTAIGH CLAN, who in 1653 our FR. THADDEUS MORIARTY was held prisoner here for well close to 3 months ( His crime was SAYING CATHOLIC MASS in the woods around the Gap of Donloe for caatholics when ENGLAND made it a crime of Treason for doing som during England control of Ireland.,
Fr. Thad A DOMINICAN refused to stop saying mass and was captured and marched over the mountains to Ross Cast;e and was questioned , harrassed, tried and convicted and sentenced to hang in Killarney .
Fr. THADDEUS was happy to find out he would be put to death
For giving his life for his faith was for him a JOY to behold. And when he was tgaken back to Killarnery to face the rope He told his captorrs he forgave them and that for him to Hang for His Faith was a Joy for HIM , His last words to the Irish people was "Keep the
Faith always,
The Good news is our FR. THADDEUS was "BEAUTIFIED " BY POPE JOHN PAUL THE 2ND. on Sept 27, 1992 and with prayers the Title of Saint is now the next step. GOD WILLING PRAYERS WILL DO IT.

WE TOM & DOLLY MORIARTY beable to view this great History of Ireland and OUR CLAN WAS JUST HEAVEN TO US.

“Nice castle with picturesque view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2009

We visited Ireland in June 2009. The castle was on a beautiful lake. The guided tour was well done and contained many period pieces. No photography is allowed on the tour, and the price of 6e seemed a little high.

“Very Nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2009

This was our first castle in our trip to Ireland - it was not our favorite but it was cool. We did not take the guided tour due to timing, but would have liked to hear the history in depth. the grounds are very nice and we enjoyed just walking around the castle and looking at the exhibit on the main floor.

“Great Place to Stay in Killarney, Ireland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2009

We recently stayed at Ross Castle Lodge for 2 nights & we loved our stay there - can't ask for more than this. Big size rooms as well as clean. Nice location, close to city center, Ross castle close by - Walking distance. If you are planning to go to Ring of Kerry, Gap of Dunloe, or Dingle Peninsula then stay here, you wont regret.

Roselynn & Dennis are wonderful host, they are friendly and nice people. Both are very helping. Dennis guided us where to go and stop during our drive to Ring of Kerry, whole ring is about 100 Miles drive app, there are various villages and town to see in Ring of Kerry.
Roselynn prepared delicious breakfast in the morning, we are vegetarian, she cooked beans, tomotoes & waffee for me in the morning with fresh fruit salad, cerial, coffee/tea/orange juice etc......that was pretty good.
Thanks for making our stay comfortable, we would love to go back there again.
Ireland is very beautiful country with exceptionally friendly people. Killarney is pretty town, lots of sightseeing to do by Killarney, wish we would had more time.

“Stunning Views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2008

The castle is viewable by guided tours only - so you may sometimes have to wait a short while for the next tour to start - but there is quite a good model of the whole castle to investigate while you wait. Gives a better idea of everything you are about to see.

Our guide was a tad nervous - maybe it was his first time, I don't know, but he did struggle a little bit trying to keep us all entertained.

There is quite a bit of wlaking up and down spiral staircases, so it may be worth bearing in mind if you struggle with heights - or if you are a bit infirm on your feet. There were several elderly people in our tour group though - and they seemed to cope ok - in fact one little old lady seemed to be coping better than most of us, thanks to her trusty walking cane - so if you use a cane - take it along!

The castle is well worth a visit for the stunning views across the lakes. Extra tours can be taken across or around the lakes. The boatmen are all hanging round on the docks waiting.

There is a small shed serving quite good coffee round the back, picnic tables are available but only if you purchase food or drink from the shed.

Toilet facilities were clean.
