“A good value B&B”
Reviewed 20 September 2010

This B&B is quite clean and decent. It's somewhat a far walk to the main streets of Killarney though, nearly 1km. We got a room on the top floor and could open the sky light up for some fresh air, which was welcoming. The only thing was that there was no kettle or tea making facility provided, unlike most other B&Bs. The staff here are friendly and the food was good.

Rivermere is a few numbers down from Glena House, which are both operated under the same parent company "Harmony Inn". A strong word of advice, pay 1 euro more to stay at Rivermere and you'll be glad that you did, as Glena House is a disgusting place to stay at whereas Rivermere is clean. See my other review on Glena House to get an idea!

Having read the other reviews of this establishment we must have picked a bad day to stay. We were received in a very matter of fact way and asked to pay up front for our two nights accommodation. The whole place is a bit dark, the rooms small and the outlokk from the window of our room was a vacant lot with building rubble scattered about. It is a little way out of town but we made the walk. Killarney is a very nice town. Breakfast next morning was also very matter of fact and the food was pretty ordinary. We drove the Ring of Kerry the next day and ate in town that night, A woman, possibly the owner or manager was about during breakfast the next morning and she showed a little more enthusiasm for customer service. Then we were blocked in the carpark and had to wait while the owner of the offending car was located. Altogether forgettable.

I spent three nights at Rivermere and I thorougly enjoyed my stay. I had a clean comfortable room which I found very restful. The breakfast was second to none with all the choices offered. The staff was friendly and helpful. I intend going back there on my next visit to Killarney as I thought it was great value for the price I paid.

We only stayed one night unfortunately, but we will return to this excellant B&B. We have stayed in many hotels and would not normally choose to stay in a B&B but the Rivermere would compare favourably with any hotel in Killarney. Our room was very comfortable, very clean and we had a great nights sleep. The breakfast was excellant , the location is perfect with restaurants only minutes walk away and it is an easy walk into the town centre but the most important plus in the Rivermere were the staff they were very attentive pleasant and very helpful. It was a pleasure to have stayed in the Rivermere and we would highly recommend this B&B to all visitors

For a budget option, the Rivermere wasn't bad overall. However, there were three main problems with the room that made our stay a bit unpleasant. The room was inexplicably boiling hot with no heating on (cool day outside) so we had to sleep with the window fully open and due to the noise coming in from outside we didn't get much sleep. The mirror in the bathroom had fallen off as the nails were still in the wall but there was nothing above the sink. The shower didn't work - it repeatedly turned itself off completely during a shower or dribbled only cold water for several minutes. The breakfast provided was okay - two different choices of cereal, yoghurt, some canned fruit and a cooked breakfast available. Food wasn't particularly fresh. However, the staff at Rivermere couldn't have been more helpful - when we explained about the shower they gave us a 10% discount and the lady at the front desk kindly printed a map for us to get us to our next destination.
