“Excellent location but Hotel very average for a 4* hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

Upon arrival we really thought we had got what we paid for. The entrance and ambiance upon arrival could not have been better and painted a perfect picture however rooms and even corridor to rooms painted a completely different picture needs a total revamp! The room was plain and pokey (not 4* quality) and faced onto the entrance to what looked to have been a bus depot with extractor fans etc being what we had to view. I do feel i am fair when writing reviews and but have never been so unsatisfied for what i paid for, staff were very plesent and location couldn't have been better however but the hotel itself after leaving the foyer left alot to be desired and being for my partners birthday surprise i felt i would have much rathered the comfort of our own room! Unfortunately its not somewhere i would advise to stay if you are looking for 4* quality and something special! I have stayed in 3* hotels for less money that were more comfortaible.

I was staying in the hotel as part of a work incentive trip and I have to say the hotel was beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was fantasticl! Really relaxing and enjoyable stay. The location was second to none, right in the heart of what is now my favourite Irish city!!

Stayed one night. Reception areas elegant and comfortable. Our room was not in the main building. It was painted white, with white bed linen, whitish curtains and totally white bathroom. Not very luxurious or inviting, though clean. Photos of other rooms on trip advisor look much nicer. Breakfast was ok. Nothing special. 'silver' teapots very tarnished. No newspapers available to buy. We paid €131 which was a lot for the quality of out stay.

I was expecting so much more from this hotel. Stayed overnight at the weekend with a friend. Room was dated and not very comfortable. The heating was on all night and there was no air conditioning. Buffet breakfast was cold in the morning. I mentioned to the receptionist on checking out about the air conditioning she barely apologised and tried to avoid the subject completely.

Would never stay here again or recommend this hotel get better value elsewhere in Eyre Square for more modern comfortable stay!!

Stayed for 2 nights. Had dinner on the Friday night in the Oyster grill, which was okay. Starter was nice. Veg badly overcooked for main with a nice, if slightly overcooked lamb. Desert very bland. The staff were friendly in the restaurant.
We were there to attended a wedding on the Saturday. Mixed service. Overall the staff were very good and friendly, but were let down badly by some poor bar staff and disorganisation. There were a number of issues I experienced at the wedding which I posted in my original review that I have since removed. The hotel contacted me and seemed very interested in addressing the issues I experienced, with the offer of a complimentary weekend to compensate. I declined this in the end as I felt it inappropriate to accept.
The wedding hall had 13 tables so maybe 120 people. The room was slightly too small for this size group I feel. I would say a maximum of 100 people for such an event. The acoustics are also problematic. The speeches were very had to hear at the back, but people at the front were telling the speakers they were too loud. The dance floor is in a double height area along with half the tables. The other half of the tables are under a low balcony beside the bar, which causes this problem.
My wife throughly enjoyed the Spa treatments on the Sunday morning.
The rooms vary in size and quality. There is a 1970's extension to the rear, while because of wooden floors in the original building there can be cracks in the bathroom floor tiles.
There was another incident on the Sunday morning with a waiter being belligerent as a fellow guest seated themselves as they had waited 10 minutes at the door to be seated. The staff in general should be reminded that the customer is king, and requests should be accommodated whenever possible.

A few small changes would easily have gotten them a higher rating. Given that they contacted me to further research my experience I would hope that they are determined to do so.

Room Tip: Try and talk your way into a suite. The rooms vary between the old and new(ish) block in size and qu...

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write of your experience at the Hotel Meyrick, we do appreciate all our guests’ feedback and take this in a constructive manner.
Whilst we did contact you regarding your previous posting on trip advisor, we did not offer the complimentary stay as compensation, but as an opportunity for you to stay with us again and see that your first experience was not that of the norm at the Hotel Meyrick.

We appreciate your tips to other guests informing them of which rooms to request. However we would advise all our guests to book the rooms they desire in advance so that they are not disappointed when they arrive at the Hotel to find that “talking their way” into a suite has been unsuccessful, these are very popular with our guests and are booked out quickly.

Thank you once again for your time, your feedback was most helpful and acted upon accordingly when you spoke with a member of the team at Hotel Meyrick.

Kind Regards
Hotel Meyrick
