We visited on a Friday evening and although many of the shops had already closed, several were open along with many restaurants with outside seating.
This is a college town and the students were out in force. Pubs were packed however there were street performers that kept everyone entertained.
Worth a trip!

Quay Street is the heart of fun and entertainment in Galway. Great music in the many pubs that line both sides of the street. You can feel the high energy atmosphere and should be ready to have fun. Things don't really get rolling until after 9 - 10 pm.
