Loved loved loved this amazing little pie eatery. DO NOT leave Galway without making a visit here. Piemaker is a tiny place with only a few seats, a fab interior and really friendly staff. We ordered a Beef and Eight Degree Stout Pie and an Irish Sausage and Black Pudding Pie and sat back taking in the decor enjoying a warming mug of hot cider and a glass of wine. Loved the dishes our pies were presented in and we tentatively dug into the pastry to discover the wonders beneath. Bloody hell these pies are .... well words can't do them justice. The spelt crust was a revelation to us both and the meat was tender, flavoursome, seasoned perfectly with the right balance of meat to other filling ingredients. The mash was soft and creamy, the peas just the right side of mushy and the red cabbage added a little bit of subtle spicing and crunch to the plate. The gravy was divine - unctuous and meaty. It's funny how something as simple and homely as a pie can make two diners so happy on a cold wintry night in Galway. If I could have had pie for breakfast the next morning I would have been first in the queue when they opened. Go try them for yourselves - there's a reason this place is so highly rated! Please open a Piemaker in every town in Ireland!
