Had a wonderful time staying here! Karen was such a joy to work with and so very hospitable! even baked cookies for us! would definitely recommend staying here, very beautiful place. The homeowner Karen was very helpful and offered us advice on what to do and see locally was very generous with her time in helping us find our our way around the area.

Spent a day and night at the castle. This isn't a hotel and you shouldn't expect a hotel experience. Karen's home is lovely, unique, and very lived in. We had a wonderful time there and Karen is a great host. When we arrived there was a kids Halloween party in full swing, and Karen welcomed our kids into it and they had a ball. Karen also dropped us over to Moran's Oyster Bar that night to save us getting a taxi. Would happily go back there when staying in Galway.

This is a tiny castle but, yes, it is a "real" castle (built in the days when such castles were often small, defensive buildings, not showcases) and it is also a real home. You can walk along the water or through the fields, watch the horses play, wander to the barn to see the new kittens, or just wander through the rooms of history. Breakfast is "make-it-yourself" (in the castle's amazing kitchen) so you might want to pick up a pastry to go with your eggs, but otherwise all you'll need is a camera. We rented two rooms with a shared bath and only stayed one night but wish we had made it two!

The stay in the castle has been absolutely delightful! We are animal people and completely enjoyed staying and interacting with all of them! Karen was great and showed us everything and informed us of the history. What a story! I would definitely stay here again! If you're looking for a 5 star hotel type environment then this isn't for you. If you're looking for a historical home that shows it's wear well for being as old as it is then come here! Keep up the great work Karen!!

Our group of five had an exceptional stay at Karen's castle and I cannot recommend it more!

We had nearly the entire castle to ourselves, save for the wings where Karen and her family live. We had five beds across two spotless, cosy bedrooms and a large bathroom with a bathtub, complete with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The living rooms and dining rooms had a classic character, with arrays of family heirlooms and historical trinkets decorating every nook and cranny (even some stone walls dating back to the 14th century!).

Upon arrival, Karen showed us around and detailed the castle's impressive history. At night, Karen was kind enough to light up a fireplace for us and provide board games. In the morning, we enjoyed our breakfast nibbles while sitting on the river-side patio and basking in the tranquility of the castle grounds.

This castle is a gem and excellent value for money.

It is located in a small, sleepy town with few services, so if you're looking for a lively night out it is better to have a car to drive to Galway city.

Tip: try the fresh seafood at nearby Maron's restaurant.
