For anyone who appreciates fish, I doubt if Cavistons can be beaten. When I visited recently, the lunch menu included crab claws, black sole, turbot, halibut and monkfish. We had the black sole & turbot, both cooked to perfection. I usually don't like sauces with my fish but this time I mopped up every morcel of the lemon sauce served with the turbot. A great location for a special treat.

Dinner here was a wonderful experience. The black sole meuniere was a huge portion - exquisitely simple, served on the bone, and spankingly fresh - utterly delicious.

The seared king scallops with fresh turmeric, coconut and dill sauce was exquisite - a very generous portion of the most tender and melt in the mouth scallops with a delicate delicious sauce.

All served with new potatoes in their skins and a large, very good mixed salad - simple but perfect. You can always rely on Caviston's for the best quality fish and seafood cooked to perfection.

We had a nice Rioja and recommended Riesling to go with the panna cotta - a really lovely dessert riesling with a honey, mead bouquet.

Add to this the relaxed, but efficient, service and the warmth of the staff and this place really is hard to beat.

Having somehow bypassed this pleasure in 30+ years of working in Dun Laoghaire, I joined colleagues for dinner just before Christmas. An outstanding dining experience with wonderful food. Only drawback was that the stock of craft beers was limited - but this may have been timing.
