A vacation in Dublin in January may not be everybody's cup of tea but it was the time we had to travel as a family of three. Having a well equipped and convenient house to ourselves made everyone's stay easier, particularly as we were fighting colds and could have separate bedrooms. The space was wonderful, beds comfortable each with a duvet, and the big bathroom with a good shower worked well. We were too afraid to use the tub (it is even bigger in person than it looks in the photo). We looked out at the garden with grill which would have been a wonderful retreat at another time of the year. The kitchen is fully equipped and we used it mostly for breakfast. The house was a good home base for seeing Dublin and just a 5-10 minute walk from many attractions and the bus routes including the Hop On one. And each morning and coming home each day from touring, there was a nice big living room with TV. Wi-fi too worked flawlessly throughout the house. This was the first time we have booked a house when traveling, but it now will not be the last time.
We stayed in this charming old place at the end of October when my husband ran the Dublin Marathon. It is very spacious and full of character with beautiful details and furnishings throughout. The owner, John, was very quick to respond to our every question and a pleasure to work with. There is a lovely garden space in the rear with a nice big table and a grill, would have been wonderful to use in warmer weather. Beds were very comfortable and bedrooms were large, especially the master. Only slight drawback was the master is in the front and there was street noise as we were there on a weekend and it was the Halloween holiday (they like to set off fireworks for Halloween, who knew?!). There is a small grocery down the block and two larger ones less than a 10 minute walk away, by Parnell Square. We used the Dublinbikes rentals which are located at the end of the block. These were so convenient and very low cost. Walk to town center was easy as well, about 25 minutes. There is also a lovely craft beer pub at the end of the block which we really enjoyed. Highly recommend!
We were definitely charmed by this property, built in 1864. Centrally located, in a residential area, convenient to public transportation. Weather was a bit too chilly for us to enjoy the garden but it would be fabulous in the summertime. Even though the house is antique, everything works perfectly - plenty warm and plenty of hot water, reliable WiFi. The kitchen would be rather small for 6 people, but we were only 3 so no problem. Thanks for a lovely stay!
