I have lunch in the Salt Cellar when I can ... it is perfectly located near Merrion Square .
The place is a hidden gem with the best soup in town ( my favorite, minestrone)
No fuss here, a place to take a break and have fab food to recharge
The cafe opens at 0700h and does a mean omelette, parking not a problem and the prospect of a quick walk around Merrion Square to start the working day....

Thank Gerry G

This is a lovely little jewel nestled near to the Pepper Cannister Church (aptly named Salt Cellar) This a basement cafe, there are some steps down. It's really very homely and Parlor like.. there is the old radio playing on the dresser which is stocked with little treats and snacks should you feel like something sweet. Some tables dotted around the back area (little terrace in summer is open) and a few seating areas in front of house. Its really nice as sometimes you can find a seat next to a total stranger. Its up to you how friendly you want to be, but its always nice to be nice and say hello. Sandwiches and rolls are made in front of you. Selection of breads are available daily. The sandwich fillings are always freshly topped up. Kieran is the proprietor and head chef. He makes a wonderful totally 100%home made soup. You have a choice of Chicken, Veggie or Minestrone. That is served with a lovely home made bread. Kieran also makes a wonderful 100% home made Lasagna and proper home cooked chips (direct from the spud not the freezer bag). Its really a lovely little place to have a bite of lunch with friends or wander in and have a read of the paper, listen to the wireless in this lovely part of Dublin. Always a friendly welcome. (oh freshly made scones every morning) ! Opens early as well... enjoy my review and little nod of a thumb if you like it :)

The chicken noodle soup here is the best I've ever tasted! It's hard to find chicken noodle soup anywhere, but here at the Salt Cellar it is always on the menu. It features lots of fresh veg, delicious chicken right off the bone, and an abundance of noodles (always key). Definitely worth a visit for all chicken noodle soup aficionados or lovers of home-cooked comfort food!

This is a lovely café in the basement of a building very close to the Pepper Canister on Mount Street. The produce is always fresh and tasty. Seating in limited but also a very busy take-away service. Good value and service is al
