Our experience with Vagabond Tours is this is a stellar tour company and we had an outstanding tour experience on the 8 Day Wild Atlantic Tour(Driftwood). We were originally going to rent a car and see these very same places on our own. But I stumbled upon Vagabond Tours when I was researching on the internet and I am so glad. They basically duplicated the same itinerary we would have done on our own but they do the driving, include breakfast and a tour guide, and do it all for much less than we could have done the same trip. Vagabond Tours does a great job explaining the difference between the 2 types of tours they offer - Driftwood is more low key, less strenuous and physically demanding, while their Vagabond experiences including activities like kayaking, zipline, horse riding, hiking etc. A Driftwood tour was the perfect activity level for seniors like my husband and I. Everything with Vagabond Tours was great from the booking experience, to the helpful advance emails explaining what to expect on the tour, to the tour itself. Our guide Damien made the experience wonderful for us - he was knowledgeable, very funny and very attentive to everyone's needs. Damien cleaned the van at the end of each day so we boarded a spotless van each morning. He also injected lots of personal touches in the tour like taking the group to a beautiful, deserted beach and teaching us the basics of the sport hurling - great fun and hilarious experience that helped everyone on the tour get to know each other better. Damien also seemed to know instinctively without being asked when to make a comfort stop at a service station so we could get a cup of tea and a bathroom break. I was really impressed to received an email half way through the tour from the Vagabond office checking in and asking if there anything we needed to make the tour even better. All the accommodations were very comfortable, spotlessly clean and a variety of experiences from the quaint, charming Coachman Townhouse in Kenmare to the more posh Armada Hotel on the Spanish coast. The dress code was very relaxed, so you definitely don't have to pack anything on the formal side. My husband and I each had a small carryon suitcase for the 8 day tour and were able to comfortably pack everything we needed. The tour was a balanced mix of historic sites, picture perfect towns and villages, easy walks in the countryside or formal gardens of historic houses and very interesting local artisans and craftsmen. The included breakfasts at each hotel were excellent, with great variety. Every dinner we had from pub grub to sit down dinners were delicious and made with fresh local ingredients. The seafood was amazing especially the creamy seafood chowder and the fresh local mussels. Listen to the locals suggestions on where to go for food or a friendly pint. Two highlights for us were 1) staying at the Gougane Barra Inn and the hospitality of owners Neil and Katy(excellent chef) and 2) West Kerry Sheep Dog demonstration on the working sheep farm with owner Bridget. Our tour vehicle was a Mercedes van that seated 13 comfortably. I was really impressed with the Vagabond Tours organization, attention to detail, responsiveness to emails and genuine desire to make this a great experience for us. I would book with them again without hesitation.
