I decided in January that it was time to go to Ireland to find my roots :)
I was a solo traveler and booked my Vagabond tour with a lot of excitement but a wee bit of apprehension. Ciara M. from admin was SUPERB in helping and reassuring me every step of the way.
I went on the April 8-14 2018 Vagabond Wild Irish Tour. The tour is 8 days but for those of us who sadly had to leave after seven, they were extremely accommodating.
The whole experience was MAGICAL...
I highly recommend staying at the Grand Canal Hotel if you need accommodations before and after your tour-- great location, super organized, clean, fabulous and helpful.
There were ten people total on our tour led by the BEST IRISH TOUR GUIDE ON THE PLANET: Edwina!!
Edwina was AMAZING!!
She is this little pixie from County Cork who was brilliant, super organized, funny, responsible, flexible, encouraging, patient and fabulous! On top of all of that, she was an awesome and super safe driver of our very comfortable Mercedes Benz van.
She taught us so much history and folklore about the country she so clearly adores. Every day was excellent with lots of activity, learning and laughs!
The accommodations and food were FANTASTIC!
This is DEFINITELY the way to go if you desire a small group, active, off the beaten track experience of Ireland.
I have not one regret or complaint!
Ireland had a tough, longer winter this year and even though things were not "green" yet, it did not matter at all!
I am home now in Burlington, Vermont and missing Ireland terribly :(
I feel so incredibly blessed that I had the opportunity to go on this amazing Vagabond adventure and cannot thank each and every person enough who made this possible...
I will be back!!

We completed our Drifwood tour a few weeks ago and had an awesome time. We saw a lot of the countryside and places that the bigger tour groups don't (or can't) get to. The itinerary each day was set so there was plenty to do, but we never felt rushed and really saw a lot. The accommodations were great -- very comfortable, nice breakfasts, nice amenities.
Our guide, Mark, was fantastic! He really has a passion for what he does. He talked about Irish history, everyday life, movies, books, recited poetry, sang songs...oh yeah, and drove! He really catered to all members of our group, accommodating those who wanted to shop, suggesting more active things for those of us who wanted to get out and walk or hike around. On our free day in Dingle he arranged for a few of us to do some Naomhog(sp) rowing with the Dingle Rowing Club, which was lots of fun!
I'm not a "tour person" and I genuinely had a great time on this trip. I'd absolutey travel with Vagabond again.

Hello Gayle, thank you for your review. We get a few people who say they are not 'tour people' but really enjoy ours. I think its because we allow for space for our guests to have choices, free time and options around dining too. Mark is a super guide and we are lucky to have him on our team. We hope to see you again someday in the future. Kind regards, Rob Rankin, Owner.

We went in April and it was cold and rainy but the tour was still fantastic. Having everything planned and not having to drive made it all stress free. We got real insight to the country, were taken to the best places to eat, and because we weren't in a big bus we could get into areas that they can't. It was more active than I expected, but it was good to get a workout in every day. The guides were fun, helpful and knowlegeable. Highly recommend

We are having a lovely time on this tour. The accommodations have been wonderful and the timings during the day for each event has been spot on, haven't felt as if we have been hurried. Mark is a wonderful guide who is ready to tune his multi talents to fit the group. He has the Irish gift of bringing romance and poetry but no nonsense to everyday life, past and present. Small group size is the way to go in Ireland and Vagabond/ Driftwood tours excel in the nuances of each group needs. Jump on the bus and leave the rest to them!

My wife booked a semi-surprise trip to Ireland for us and two of our teenage children. She chose Vagabond because it was an active tour (touring + hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, etc), and because the itinerary was extensive and included destinations off the beaten track. In all honesty, I embarked on this adventure assuming that, while a trip to our ancestral homeland would be be powerful no matter what, (1) the kids might be bored (2) the food would be average at best (3) lodging would be passable if we were lucky, and (4) it would rain the entire time. I am happy to report, all of these assumptions proved to be very wrong. Our guide for the tour was Mr. Sean Nee, aided by new trainees Jamie and John. The three of them combined knowledge, clarity, humor, and a sense of fun, to make the ride extra special. The trip is designed so that the group is rarely riding for much more than an hour at a time between stops and excursions. The sites were uniformly breathtaking, from the bed and breakfast nestled in a valley at Gougane Barra, to the rocky arches along the shore at Alihies, to the streets of Dingle and the burren on the road to Galway, to name just a few. The hikes up and through these places were great fun for the kids and the guides showed a great nack for hanging out with and relating to teenagers, which was a huge plus. As for the food, Ireland has a reputation for bland, boiled food. That reputation is firmly a thing of the past. Ireland's combination of nearby farms and ocean makes for incredibly fresh and organic food at every restaurant and hotel. The butter alone is worth the journey, and the chefs have clearly trained up on preparation strategies. Every hotel and B&B was very nice and featured, most importantly, updated and functional showers with decent or better water pressure at every stop. There were no surprises at check in, and there was some version of wi-fi at every stop :). As for the weather, I am not sure how Sean and the team arranged it, but it is clear they have connections in high places, or at least an above average supply of luck o' the Irish - sun was much more plentiful than expected or predicted by weather.com. We cannot recommend this trip enough - from our fellow travelers in the tour group, to the itinerary, to the accommodations, and especially to the tour guides, this was a trip that will live in our memories, and our kids' memories, forever.

Hello Pat, wow what a review and we are so delighted to hear that Ireland exceeded all expectations! Perhaps we need to shout louder about all our treasures but then again it is very special when guests discover them for themselves. Our guides are top notch and it is great to hear your entire family enjoyed the vacation. Ireland's weather is very changeable at this time of year so you never know what you are going to get but always guaranteed some days of clear skies. Thank you for your review. Kind regards, Rob Rankin, Owner.
